Description When I was 16, in the summer of 1989, I went to see Batman in New Jersey while visiting my grandparents. And for me, Jack Nicholson became The Joker to me. I thought he played that brilliantly, and he kind of took over that image to me.

Well, fast forward 19 yrs, and well...sorry Jack, but you have been replaced.

I thought when Batman Begins came out a few years ago, it was the best Batman movie I have ever seen. Well that changed this past summer when I saw "The Dark Knight." And though the other actors in the movie did a phenominal job in it, the screen was taken over by Heath Ledger as the Joker. Maniacal, cunning, intelligent, and scary, he played the part the way we all hoped it would be played.

So this is my little tribute to the future Oscar winner, Heath Ledger, for his role as "The Joker."

Laters...

Matty

P.S. (added 1-23-09) Changed the name, he said "C'mon" once, but said "Hit Me" over and over....

Great work with his disgruntled look!!
I particularly like the way you've rendered the fabric. It seems very soft, very touchable.

Very awesome. I have to agree. I thought that Jack did the best job as The Joker until I saw Heath. I fell in love with Heath as The Joker. You are soooo good at this. ^_^

Again, thank you very much Yeah, I don't really think anyone could replace Heath in that role now. (of course, I felt that was about Jack too..sooo) But if he doesn't win that award this time around, then the whole Acadamy thing is a farce....

I just finally watched this 2 days ago, yeah I am slow on the ball . A friend brought over the disk because I said I refuse to pay at theaters. ( long story) At any rate it was long, every one fell asleep but me, I was on the edge of the couch bouncing with the plot. Heath really did an amazing job, it isn't all hype because he passed away. I was happily surprised and really enjoyed his performance. You have done an amazing job on this piece. To be honest, your whole galley is stunning, you have a true gift for shadow and form!

thank you very much...I really do appreciate that. I have another of him as the Joker in the works, also one without the makeup, and then another poster I wanted to draw. (I was a fan of his wayyyy before he passed. Started with "10 things...")

This is fantastic...
And he truly was amazing as The Joker, I was kind of nervous going into the cinema, since I couldn't think of anyone else in that role other than Nicholson. But my god... as soon as he was on the screen, it was all him.

Great work. ^_^

Oh, and I agree with what you said bout Candy in one of the comments, noticed it while writing this. That was such a great role for him. But Ten Things is my fave of him, after all he sang and danced! Though Dark Knight did include Nurse Joker.

Well I know that myself, as well as quite a few other people, weren't really expecting that. It was much, much darker than we all thought it would be, and there were even parents taking their kids out after a while, thinking it was a kids movie. But after reading reviews by my trusted sources (mainly Kevin Smith) who said I would be wanting more even after the 3 hours...well they were right.

And Candy I actually found by mistake one night. I love TV..(my hobby here requires me to sit around for hours at a time, what would you do?)..and heard about the movie watching his THS Bio, and there it was one night in the listings. And he gave just as outstanding a performance, but yet I don't know how many others know about that one. 10 Things, Knight's Tale, Patriot just some of the other faves of mine...

And thank you very much, I really do appreciate that...

Scream-Deafening In reply to mattyrich [2008-10-11 03:44:33 +0000 UTC]

I think I knew it was going to be dark, after seeing an article in The Rolling Stone I think it was, where the actor who played batman had actually forgotten his lines in one of the scenes where he watched the Joker making his threats. He just got that affected by it, that he just blanked on it all. It was a really great movie, and without Heath, it just wouldn't quite work.

My friend actually showed it to me, she has hundreds of movies and we were in the mood for a Heath Ledger movie, and since I hadn't seen it, she put it on. It was great, the fact it was actually set in Australia too made me love it all the more.

Love Knights Tale, bought it the other week and watched it like four times within a week. lol.

You're very welcome.

mattyrich In reply to Scream-Deafening [2008-10-11 07:22:15 +0000 UTC]

I actually loved the entire cast of that one, Knight's Tale, and being a guy of course, Shannon Sosssssidontknowhowtospellherlastname. But even in there you could see his talent.

And I didn't mean I didn't expect dark...I didn't expect it to be THAT dark...I mean, that's what the Joker is all about...a complete psycho, with no rules, but always one step ahead of everyone...

Christian Bale played Batman...he's another of my fav actors as well. But I won't get started on that conversation...I have wayyyyyyy too many to mention...lol...

Scream-Deafening In reply to mattyrich [2008-10-11 09:01:56 +0000 UTC]

hehe, it was a really great movie.
OH! And you know the bad guy, who kept trying to impress the girl, he was in Taming of the Shrew, and cross dressed in it, so last time I watched Knights Tale, I couldn't take him seriously at all. haha.

I like how he is proved wrong with the two boats... oh that was a great bit of the movie.

lol, yeah.. I don't tend to watch many movies so don't have many favourite actors, though there are plenty of movies I love. I just prefer to read or draw. xD

Rufus Sewell...and yes, he is an amazing actor as well. (See a movie called Amazing Grace that he's in, along with Ioan Grunfeld (the guy that was in Fantastic Four) it's really a great movie as well)

I got started watching movies from my mom, who loved nothing more than getting a cup of tea, maybe something to munch on, and just sat back and wathced her favorite movies over and over again. Then I started to do the same, and it really just took off from there. Then add in the fact that I get to sit around drawing all the time, and I need background stuff there too..and it's either TV, movies, or on occasion music that I need. But for some reason, movies just seem to click for me. Hell, you know that game Scene-It, yeah, my friends don't let me play with them, tell me it's unfair sometimes...lol..

That's the one, just went blank on his name. >.>
Will keep an eye out for the movie. ^^

That's really sweet, it's good when you can find a common ground to share. ^__^
The only time I can watch something while drawing is if it's what I'm drawing, or I just get completely distracted by the movie. lol. Like last night I was trying to draw, but mum put Drop Dead Fred on, and suddenly I realised I was drawing him instead. x) One of my favourite movies. There's just something about imaginary friends which really interest me.
lol, few years ago, one of my friends who is also a massive harry potter fan got the harry potter version of Scene-It and was really proud of the fact she was so good at it, then I came over one day. >.> I proved it wrong with some questions. lol. Books are definitely my love. And music. Australian stuff in particular lately because of Triple J (radio station).
