Fun with candles and incense smoke, with thanks to David for his patience and persistence fanning the smoke around for me - it took a very long time to get it thick enough, and where we wanted it. Several photos of smoke have been blended together, which was not what I'd hoped to do, but it was worth the sacrifice I think, to get the result I wanted.

We are fully into spring now, with a very changeable weather pattern which is typical. I see outside the birth of new buds on the trees, and flowers. I hear the birds singing, everyday now...that makes me know all is fine in this place, they are happy! I can smell the air, after the fresh raindrops have fallen...its sweet and fragrant with a heady earthiness to the ground. The sun struggles to come out and play, to warm us up another day...but yet the clouds are partial to the sky, and won't leave! The cat on the fence next door, taunts the dog who barks at it furiously, but yet the cat just sits there as if to say "Ha, I'm way up here, and you're way down there and you can't NEW WATCHERS ART AND MORE......

,I can't believe it's nearing the end of June already, six months have gone so fast in some ways
I'm sitting watching the FIFA World Cup Soccer highlights and wow has there ever been some upsets in regards to teams that we're favoured to win, and have been beaten by the "underdog's"...I have always my whole life, cheered for the underdog's and I think it's fantastic that finally, they too get recognised for their accomplishments 
Some good news...I'm doing really good
The nerve pain has gone in my neck finally, and even though I still struggle with lack of strength in my shoulders and the odd twang of pain, I'm managing quite well and able to do more things! Sleeping lying down is STILL an issue...so we are thinking of an alternative special bed that I cKindly requested by
I was so excited to receive a Third Place at camera club 14th Oct 2013. I've had 6 Merits since being in the 'advanced' category along with professional photographers and hobbyists alike, but this was my first real 'Place'

Thank you so much! And yes, it is real. It's a book about steam trains, but I chose it mostly because the pages stayed open fairly well, and the fact that the pages are made of shiny paper helped the light to reflect as well. From the back, we also propped the pages open by putting the handles of about 15 little artist's brushes in various pages to hold them open nicely. It was a very fun shoot!

Oh, the book is still in perfect condition! The flames are only reflected on the shiny paper from the candles behind the book, and the smoke is from incense sticks. No books were harmed in the making of this photo

Thank you so much, and for ing too. Tripod to hold the camera still, paint brush handles from the back to keep the pages spaced, candles behind for the light and about 5 or 6 layered shots of incense smoke, carefully wafted by an endlessly patient husband.

Wow, amazing! First it looked like you have lit the pages on fire, but then I noticed the candles behind the book.
Have you tried photoshopping smoke? Like creating it from the scratch in Photoshop?

The tutorials aren't as good as the one I used when learning this trick, but I couldn't find it, but I hope those 2 are informative, if you don't already know this trick and you are interested.
