Description Oh yes, I've finally started to practice the wonderful art of speed painting, and making some concept art/ enviroment studies for my upcoming graphic novel thingie (which you all are probably tired of hearing about by now. xB) These are my second try (I did them as a set one evening a few weeks back). The first set is naturally way more awkward-looking, but I've got them up on my art log anyways. Beacause early attemps at stuff is always interestin to view, especially when it doesn't really look that good. I've also got the estimated times spent on each speedie written down there, I think these three were all between 1-2 hours (Yes, that counts as a speed painting for me x/ )

Anyway, link to the art log entry with the earlier speed paintings: -art log entry-

~

Drawn in photoshop CS4 with a wacom cintiq 12wx, the brush is some kind of square chalk brush.

"SSSS" is the very convenient abbreviation for my upcoming graphic novel "Stand Still. Say Silent". Next year, my loves, next year... *rubs hands together*
~

*edit* Hahah, it's been like a month since I made these, and it wasn't until just now that I noticed the crazy Escher-isque perspective thing that's going on with the vertical pole in the foreground. It was supposed to just run straight through the shot quite close to the camera, but somewhere in the panic of trying to get the painting done in an a reasonable frame of time I apparently connected the upper part of the pole to the roof while the bottom part still continues past the bottom of the image. So now it is simultaneously existing in both the middle- and foreground. Yaay! 8D

I love this style of art. The darker colors, the realistic feel..it's almost like the beginning of a really great mystery!

I like them all! Well done. I'm not even good enough at painting to do something this nice at a regular speed, so the fact that you did them quickly is extra impressive.

I love the different feeling that each place presents! And the lighting for each piece is amazing! Great speed paints.

Not sure that you're looking, but if you'd like some tips on speed-painting, this guy's a pro: He does some first-rate finished work, as well, but he posts up his speeds regularly. Twenty minutes and I could write a story about damned near every one of them.

Your work needs to be on Magic the Gathering cards. If it's not already, that is.

Great job on all 3. I feel the bottom one is the weakest though as the houses almost feel to clean. They need to have more snow built up around the windows or something. Fantastic job all around by far.

Dude, don't harsh yourself. I can't do this. I am massively impressed by what you've done there. True, you made mistakes, but your mistakes look friggin rad! Lol. You inspire. Keep up the good work!

awesome! I absolutely love the first to paintings! Love the colours you use in the first one. Looks so monocrome and yet you kinda put complementary colours in it and it fits just right
And I love how the green of the grass returns in the glass of the windows in the second painting *o* And the clock adds a great atmosphere

I like them all. But a question: what are they standing on in that first painting?
Even at street level on a sidewalk, I would imagine them to be in water at least covering their feet, given that the water has covered the bottom floors of all the surrounding buildings.
Also, should that one guy be leaning on a rusted support girder like that?

Personally I just get more excited when hearing more about your upcoming graphic novel. These speed paintings are beautiful (I really like the bottom-most one of the lit up village nestled in mountains) and they seem to fit quite nicely with what I imagined the landscape for your next story might look like.

Not that I presume to know anything I'm just overly eager I think

I especially like the middle one for its colours though the others are nice too.
And I've got to agree with "Moriiko": I'd never be able to create something like this in such short spaces of time. Of course you should never say never, but it's very unlikely...
