THANK YOU! I was looking all over the net for something like this! I learned how to make these before, but after my pc crashed I forgot how to make em again! Something about a black dot, then blasting them to make them longer!? Anyway saves me lots of time with my comic!
Thanks again!

That's okay. I think a tutorial for Photoshop speedlines (the technique you're talking about) is somewhere on DA. I remember seeing it a while ago.

whenever I stroke the path with the brush they only go up and down and not in a radial fashion like you have at the top as an example.
Do please help me out on this one :]

You need to open the brush dynamics palette (Window > Brushes), click on shape dynamics and set angle jitter to direction. That should fix it.

I'm not sure what you mean by paths and shapes and stroking...could you explain please?

Mintoons In reply to Hyacinth7 [2011-07-15 04:36:14 +0000 UTC]
Paths are simply lines made using the pen tool in Photoshop. That's about as simple as it gets. Paths are used to create vector shapes that can be scaled and edited without quality loss. I've put a link to a tutorial on how to use the brushes in Photoshop in the description. Here are some tutorials that help explain how paths and shapes work in Photoshop.

Thanks for taking the time to explain! I'll look through these tutorials and play around in Photoshop until I figure out paths. Also, I'm sure your speedline brushes will come in really handy, so thanks for those, too!

Awesome brushes! Only I keep getting an error on my Photoshop that says they're "not compatible". I have Photoshop 7; does it work on that?

Mintoons In reply to intelligent-zombie [2011-06-27 05:57:03 +0000 UTC]
I don't know. I think I originally made these brushes on Photoshop CS3, so they might not be compatible with Photoshop 7.

Oh, I see. My Photoshop is waaaay out of date, I guess. XD Luckily I upgraded last night and they were compatible with my new version, so it's all good.

Hi! This was awesome! THanks for sharing! When I do the speed lines, they wind up with a rounded tip instead of being so sharp like this. Why is that? When you resize it for the medium and small brushes, are you supposed to keep the "constrain proportions" checked or unchecked? Woudl that be what causes it?

Mintoons In reply to ThirdPotato [2010-09-17 06:18:23 +0000 UTC]
Constrain proportions is where the size of the shape you're resizing is neatly resized equally on all sides to avoid distortion. Basically it's asking you if you want to keep the object from distorting when you resize it.
These are brushes though and you should be able to change the size of the lines by changing the brush size (setting the size of your brush before you stroke a path). To change it, you can just use CTRL + Z and stroke the path again with a different brush size.
You do not need to resize the brushes for the medium and small speedlines, they are separate brushes in the pack. You just need to use them with the same brush size you used for the larger ones.
I'm not sure what could be causing a rounded tip. The lines might be pointing the wrong way (in which case you may have to flip them if they're along a straight path). I have a link to a tutorial in the comments that shows how to use the brushes if you continue to have trouble with them.

THanks, XD ja, i know what constrain proportions does, and I did indeed use your tutorial from the link you posted, but for some reason, only the small-size one after resizing it, makes the very very tip slightly rounded. I dunno what could be causing it, but thanks for trying.

If you dont mind, could you make a small tutorial how to use your brushes? Saying to simply make paths using pen tools doesnt tell me much anything. Sorry if your facepalming and thinking im asking for the obvious. Im only using Photoshop CS3 for its fancy brushes and effects since I preffer to do my lineart in PSP7

It's the .abr file. You have to put the file in the Photoshop/Presets/Brushes folder to use them.

That's a shame. Maybe you can use Winzip or something to make it into a zip file. Although I heard around that the latest version of Gimp can use .abr files.
