Description
a gift for my haiku sensei ~siragiku , whose name means 'white chrysanthemum'.

trust me, i've been wanting to do this for a long while, but it's my lack of skill that prevent me from getting it done.
frankly, i wished my teacher's name was 'sakura' or 'bamboo' or something easier to draw.
the petals and leaves of chrysanthemum is quite a killer to paint. i have to practice till the consistency/flow of the brush is just right to make it not bleed too much into the rice paper and yet flow freely enough to have that carefree style so essential to chinese ink painting.

frame is paper texture so generously provided by `hibbary .

the poem quoted is from the famed "hyaku nin isshu" ('a poem each from a hundred poets') compiled by fujiwara no teika. poem #29:

心あてに折らばや折らむ初霜の
置きもどはせる白菊の花
kokoro ateni worabaya woramu hatusimo no
okimado haseru siragiku no hana

a rough translation of the tanka here:
i thought i would pluck that blossom,
but really it is the first frost
that i mistook for a white chrysanthemum.

there is a chinese equivalent of this tanka:
欲折白菊以为记，却道秋霜惑眼目

白菊先生、いつも俳句の修業にお世話になりました。
どうもありがとうございました！
