I drew this version shortly after perfect-running his stage, which for me, was one hell of an event. My little brother watched over me, and I thought for sure I would screw up again, with the whole if-a-person-watches-you'll-jinx-it-for-sure superstition, but it was indeed just a superstition, and odds said otherwise. It was the second day of the 810nicle Day event, and watching Stuart Sayger's Axonn-drawing stream motivated me further to draw a newer illustration to use for the video's thumbnail.

I pulled up the old one, looked at them side by side... and my energy faded. The old version was better to me, more expressive, and I stuck with that. In the end, despite all the energy I spent on it, I decided not to post this one.

Looking back a month later, though, it's a respectable effort, and in some ways an improvement on the one I made a year ago. The linework's cleaner, the interpretation is more accurate, the colors are more varied. I have learned that failures are okay, and I should be comfortable to post art that I consider not-up-to-my-standard for the simple sake of retrospection. I tried to balance not-trying-to-make-this-look-like-the-old-drawing with clean-and-cautious-linework when maybe going a little more reckless was the way to go, and I know that now. Doesn't make it a trainwreck, doubly so if I know what could make it better next time. So... yeah, it's not going in scraps, and it is going in featured. I feel better about the piece now.
