And last but not least, the figure who glues all the previous post together in a single narrative: Thunder, last of the Tyrant Kings, and a giant Were-Tyrannosaurus Rex! I posted his lore earlier in a reddit post , and is by far, the most elaborate of them all. Why? Because he's THAT much of an important historical figure in-universe.

-----

The discovery of a massive stele buried beneath rock and stone, alongside a plethora of pottery and tablets gave archeologists the surprise of their life, as they realize that the Tyrant King of so many other stories was a title, rather than a single individual, but even among them, Thunder stood out in so many ways compared to his ancestors.

Thunder, so named because his roar shook the heavens and the earth, was, like all his ancestors, a mighty warrior who made the battlefield bow to his will, and considering that he triumphed over the Butcher Queen, the Priest Queen and Ironhorn, he certainly lived up to the example set of his ancestors:
  • The founding mother of his clan brought the Father of the Skies down to earth.
  • His grandfather humbled the Earthshakers
  • His father humiliated The Brothers.

He had two things they lacked however: A sense of compassion, and vision of what the Empire could be.

Time and time again, he saw that an Empire ruled by fear only engenders hate and resentment in the long run, and instead wanted an Empire governed by the rule of law and embraced by its subjects willingly. He wanted to make an Empire that set an example for kingdoms to follow, long after he and his own realm was gone.

It was Thunder, who spared Ironhorn and her rebels, and even asked her to help him oust his father, promising to treat them as with dignity, respect and governance of their original homeland… and kept that promise.

It was Thunder who spared Torch Bearer and her kin, making sure that no one harassed them on their way to make their own destiny (on the threat of death… he’s still a Tyrant King after all).

He went out of his way to learn from the defeated foes of his forefathers, from the Children of the Sky to the Earthshakers and the Priest Queen and her attendants, and in turn applying what he thought was the best aspects of each of their cultures and applying them to the Empire as a whole. In fact, it was probably thanks to him that the Titan Roads became so extensive, because he personally funded the endeavor to better connect the realms of his Empire.

All this would come to play, when, according to the stele, a great demon emerged from the sea to bring destruction on all those who dwelled on the surface world… A Sea Lord, who brought with him the fury of all manner of creatures of the sea.

And even here, Thunder triumphed… but considering how little artefacts there are between what was written on Thunder’s stele, and the first civilizations after the Primeval Age, it’s safe to assume that it took everything his Empire had, and never again would his realm reach the heights it did before the invasion. This makes it hard to decipher if Thunder’s stele is mostly propagandistic or factual; for all anyone knew, the story of Thunder’s fight with the Sea Lord could just be one massive metaphor.

The Royal Stele, as it would be called, has made Thunder and his kin perhaps the most famous of Ancient Werebeasts, as not only does it connect to the oral histories and stories of so many others, it’s also the only one written in two languages. One is the language of Thunder’s people, and the other a very rough, basic version of the language used by the very earliest of Post-Primeval Civilizations. It is unknown if Thunder himself commissioned the translation, but if he did, perhaps that is his greatest legacy:

A true window to the past.
