Looking at both Homer Simpson and Sideshow Bob, strangling Bart, reminds me part of the song, 'Deep Deep Trouble ', sung by Bart Simpson.

I should think so, but either Homer has no clue how to strangle a person correctly (which wouldn't surprise me XP) or he's using some restraint. For the most part he really is a good dad, and I can't quite blame him when Bart crosses him.

Yeah, that grossed me out. I'm sure he'll be back. The Simpsons staff has made it an official point to give him one episode every other season, apparently, not counting brief appearances, like in "Wedding For Disaster" when Bart and Lisa thought he kidnapped Homer.
Plus such a popular character can't just vanish without some kind of explanation. Some characters have been phased out, but he's figured so prominently in the show that they can't possibly drop him, at least not without some kind of resolution.
