Description Huge ass file is HUGE, and I'm sorry but there's no way for me to reduce it's size and still show off many details that would otherwise be lost due to compression, shrinking, etc.

Also this may be the exception to my late use of Stash to serve as my WIPs sharing... I'm posting this as a normal submission in my gallery for the sole purpose of displaying my 99.9% completed model of the Hyperion. There are but a few minor details such as the switches on the dash board and the addition of a magnetic compass on the steering wheel pedestal but other than that, Hyperion is about ready for uploading to the 3Dwarehouse, hence I'm making this mural as gallery spam rather than update my older submissions via over-write.

There are far TOO many little details such as rivets to be included with this model and still make the 10mb limit for the warehouse, so I'm electing to forgo those details. Hell I've even had to abandon the use of multiple component parts to make an actual bicycle chain to connect the motors to the propellers... I might have gone overboard detailing the engines, but I'm not diving back into the model just to reduce the poly count at this time... later perhaps, just not right now.. And anyhow the balloon portion alone has a shat ton of polygons so this model is pretty heavy as it is.... and speaking of the balloon... I will openly admit to cheating on the construction with the use of Blender, my other 3D program, to make the fluid graceful curves to the balloon. I HAVE tried to make the Hyperion entirely within Sketchup, but each attempt to droop the nose and taper it ended in failure, so rather than frustrate myself and loose time that I could otherwise spend doing other arts, I opened up Blender and using identical reference images as used within Sketchup, I made the balloon of the Hyperion with Blender's unique modeling methods that have yet to be matched by any existing Sketchup extension plug-in module.

Apart from not quite being ready to upload to the warehouse for public release, I hope you all can enjoy the preview images here on dA while I finish off my model.

How could anyone forget about the Arctic, Vikings, killer whales, and Zeppelins?

I don't suppose your making these as models in FSX huh?Β Β  The Hyperion would be a pretty cool ride in that simulator.

Nah actually this is a free to use SketchUp model 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model… but I suppose there might be a way to import the kmz file into FSX, just I wouldn't have a clue how to.. I don't have Flight Sim 10.

Yeah, I just got it a couple of weeks ago because it was the only one with halfway decent airship mods.Β  Still painfully few and the physics are just a bit off.Β  Haven't found anyone who has made a sim with real lighter-then-air physics...hmmm, I wonder if Silent Hunter could be modded.

Thank you so much for doing the Hyperion! Loved this ship sense I saw the movie.

Yes mam! Nice enough that constructing an IRL model is very possible using these as a guide.
Always loved these semi rigid designs based on Lebaudy designs, Disney did too apparently.

Have you thought of doing R80 or U.S.S. Shenandoah?Β

Shenandoah yes, it would be a simple matter of finding some references either here on dA, or another site, and converting one of my Luftschiff Zeppelin into a war reparations ship like Shenandoah. ^ ^ My only hangup at present that's keeping me from working on this is the fact that I have yet to find a decent close up view of Shenandoah's command gondola to make a conversion. Early on, she featured a engine in the forward gondola car much like other Zeppelin of her type, but later this was removed as the American engineers worked to reverse tweak the design and learn from it.. so later the gondola shape changed dramatically.. Shenandoah practically became another ship entirely.

But I'm sure I can find some reference images. It's only a matter of time. ^ ^

..I'll go out on a limb here.
I live near Dallas and the Charles E Rosenthal collection is here. They have close ups of her, blue prints, pics, even a girder from her wreck. they have stuff from the U.S.S. Los Angeles, Macon & Akron. They also have some plans and prints from a Schutte Lanz ship. I could try and get some stuff for you if you'd like....

Awe thank you, but that won't be necessary.
I'm sure that if I visit our local library, and not just poke around on the web, I'll find some images of Shenandoah that would suffice.

C'est une bijou parfait! I loved Captain Brieaux... And that brave little semi-rigid gave all she had in that film.
