Its kinda insane how much variation there is with wolf colorations. "Gray wolf" almost isnt fitting, theres so many colors!

What a beautiful pack! I so wish I could get a wolf pelt, but I can't purchase one where I live!

Thank you! And that's a bummer! There are a few places I had considered moving, but I always have to check out the wildlife laws before I go haha My state doesn't care what you own as long as its legal, except grizzly bear parts can't be bought or sold. They can be owned though, so I'd die with so many wildlife laws. I think I'd have to get rid of half of my collection. Hopefully someday you will be in an area you can purchase one =]

They truly are! What I would do to be able to interact with one!

Wolves are definitely more interesting alive, but are still great teaching ambassador's in death, for those who are unable to interact so closely with them. I've worked with both wild and captive wolves, and it's really a neat experience, and these pelts help those who can't do that understand what an interesting creature wolves can be in terms of size, shape, feel, etc. That sounds really nice to have them that close to you. They live all over around me, but never that close. I'm not sure they'd have taken too well to the dogs though, so I'm okay with it haha
And I agree, I only support regulated and responsible hunting, which promotes conservation and sustains wildlife and their lands. These pelts all came from northern areas where wolves are far from endangered, and even in my state the populations are far from critical, but I still support the responsible take of these animals regardless.

You sound like a pretty cool guy
Yeah, we have several friends who are wildlife conservators. Patrick Kilpatrick is one of them, and he has several taxidermy animals in his flat that are gorgeous examples! It's definitely about proper stewardship of nature and not "just cuz I can, murica, wolves are monsters". Haha
Oh it was awesome having them around! It was a mating pair and their two cubs, I listened to them learning to howl every night, and I'd see their returning tracks every morning. Unfortunately there were a lot of deer poachers in that area, it was a game trail, and the whole family ended up shot, save for the female which gave up, ran away, and was never seen again after her second mate was shot (we saw the poor fella, a gorgeous black one, fall... the female's howls were heartbreaking). It was sad because they used to walk with me every week, playing with my pup. Oklahoma is REALLY bad about poaching. Makes me wonder if they could relocate some of the wolves in your area to here to balance things out?

That sounds pretty nice, but sad they all ended up shot, but that's the conflict with them and people it seems. Wolves in my area are pretty territorial and pretty much devour any other canine in their area, whether it be dog, coyote, or another wolf haha So I'm surprised to hear they'd play with your pup. I haven't actually heard of any wolves living in Oklahoma, besides hybrids and potential mexican wolf sightings, so that's interesting to hear. The wolves in my area are a completely different subspecies than what would have been indigenous to Oklahoma back then, so I don't think they would ever relocate wolves from here to there. Perhaps through natural drift they will eventually make their way there if the land can support them.

Yeah, it seems to be mostly gray and Timberwolves around here. I think they were relocated at some point in time to the area due to the once endangered population. The other wolves, the Arctic and others, are likely descendant of pet wolves that got released when their owners were tired of them (they're like huskies: highly intelligent, easily bored, and require tons of exercise). But it wouldn't surprise me if some of them had migrated here, as some wolves travel 40 miles each day. They're territorial, and aggressive if you present yourself as a threat, but they only ever attacked the coyotes in the area, occasionally kill an aggressive ferile boxer/Labrador/etc... honestly though that was a godsend because people here are asshats when it comes to pets and we're overrun by aggressive strays.
