I can't tell if I'm just getting slower over time, or getting more busy overall? (I need to figure that out!) But at long last, here's the first custom Aequis from this year's round! A mountain type with osprey-inspired plumage, for sergeanthax . This was my first run at attempting the shimmery feather edges that are characteristic of mountain types, though it's not visible in the scan, as it's metallic pencil and we all know that only seems to show up in person.
At least you can see the barring properly!Winsor & Newton watercolors and Caran d’Ache Supracolor watercolor pencils with touches of white gouache on Arches 140 lb watercolor paper, hot press finish. Approx. 15.5 x 11.5 inches, 39.37 x 29.21 cm.

I think this was the original version of the species, before I decided it'd be fun to make types! So in my head I refer to them as Aequis ver. 1.0.

This is amazingly beautiful - I especially love the wings of the right depiction (the one having some background). The colors and details are wonderful, as well as the shading. The composition looks quite good, too - like a lot of information and picture, but one still has a good overview.

Thank you! Most of the work on these goes into a) the design itself and b) getting all of the right poses to work together on one sheet, while showing as much of the creature as possible. I also don't like reusing poses, so extra tricky!
