But what a beautiful hummingbird! The colors are so striking against the snow. Like a little splash of sunshine on a cold day. :3

Yes, they really seem to glow in the snow. They are designed for warmer climates, but they are pretty remarkable little birds... at night when it is cold and they can't feed, they slow their metabolisms way down and go into a dormant state to conserve energy. They also eat insects and sap from trees, so they do have a few alternatives, and where snows and frosts don't last too long, they have gradually been expanding their range northward.
