Description
Here it is! The abyssal backswimmer! It's not very big overall, but its jaws and "teeth" are enormous! Its jaws can dislocate and the belly can inflate, so it can swallow prey as big as itself!
Even though the eyes appear to be turned upwards, - the animal focuses on prey which generally swims above - they're actually turned downwards, because the animal swims naturally with the upper half of the body almost horizontal and the tail section almost vertical. It swims by undulating its many fins, so it's not very fast-moving, but it doesn't need speed to catch prey, they have a pair of grasping tentacles which can dart forward quickly, and an angler-like tentacle with a bioluminiscent "cyst" at the end full of symbiotic bacteria. It has "reflectors" close to their eyes, and a line of small bioluminiscent dots running down its sides.
