Credit is made where credit is due, and you my friend definitely are due some credit.

Flawless composition. I happen to disagree with the other critique, though, I find that the two men are just perfect, if there were to be any more it would disturb the serenity and dark peacefulness of death itself.

Your vision was perfect, you planned well for this. It must have been tedious finding subjects to shoot naked in colder waters (it seems), congratulations on being so lucky. The only thing I would say about it is that if the men were separated a bit more it would have given a bit more dimension

Now on to technique: I love the movement you've created here with the angle getting the curvature of the river and all. The lighting and your settings are obviously more then sufficient, I love the way the light catches the water creating significant lights and darks (which always makes a good composition). Even your editing is well done although I believe it is almost to the point of being over edited for some reason t me (hence the non-perfect score for technique).

Nonetheless; this is a high impact piece, very original, very technical. I like it.

Cheers to you my friend.

Absolutely beautiful. I love the idea as well as the way the artist has demonstrated it. The gloomy atmosphere seriously represents the true picture of Hades. The Christan "Hell" is only but one part of the Greek Underworld and I love seeing the eeriness that is Hades. I almost wish there were more bodies simply because when I imagine the river Styx, I have always imagined it full of bodies. However, with there being only two it gives off this essences of despair and loneliness. The dead man float that the men have taken on is perfect if not a little stiff, and the way the water laps around them is absolutely perfect.
Wonderful job!

myLord, this is such a beautifully haunting photograph. what is most impressive is instead of relying on blood and gore, the artist has achieved a similar feeling of hell and despair by the use of a subtle array of, dare i say, passive elements.

before we get in too deep, i would like to point out that the elimination of other colors already sets the perfect foundation for this piece. the setting itself gives off an ancient mood tying the piece together with the concept of the most notable of all underworldly rivers, quite well. the high contrast of the bodies from the background, much much darker in value, does indeed draw attention to the two figures in the water, but the glare off the water's surface gives the already ghostly and pale figures an eerie air about them blending them in with the rest of the elements naturally. the ancient greeks saw nude figures as a token of pure beauty, basking in the muscular and feminine figures of their sculptures. the early christians used nudity to express shame in the form of physical exposure to the elements and others around them. we know that nudity has been used for many many years and i am glad to see a new, aesthetic take on the use of nudity to show that in death, one is stripped of everything. another very basic but effective element is the angle of the setting and of the camera itself. the naturally uneasy slant of the area in combination with the worrisome angle of the camera makes the viewer feel motion. the viewer instinctively tries to follow the flow of the river, but the dark tones and ominous nature of the photograph itself commands a deep underlying fear of doing so.

job well done to the artist. the DD was definitely well deserved.

This is such a stunning work; great job!
I think that overall the best thing about it is the shock value and the resulting mood which is very well established; the overall feel is some macabre combination of darkness and death with light and the purity of life and water. Despite the despair conveyed through the floating, abandoned corpses, the clear water adds a touch of coldness and brings to mind the contrasting concepts of cleanliness, and even a baptism of sorts. It is this contrast that really makes the image for me in terms of concept.
Technically it is very good, too. Normally a crooked horizon would detract from an image, but here it contributes to the darkness of the scene by mimicking the slanted angles of a horror film. The wide depth of field is a little distracting with the landscape, because the landscape in the background might steal some of the attention from the bodies; some of the lighter parts of the background stand out and draw the eye away from the corpses as well, though not so much that it's too distracting. Also having at least one more body far in the background might have evened it out a bit; odd numbers in visual compositions draw the eye and a third would hint at others, suggesting there are more and more bodies in this river other than just these two; however this is a fairly minor issue.
All in all it's a really original horror/macabre piece that tells a great story and really pulls the viewer in and makes them think. Excellent work!

I really like this Piece! The dumping ground for bodies.
It feels like it would be the beginning of a movie.
Really drawing you in to the scene. Reminding you of how it feels to be submerged in water. When I see this i can hear the sound of water. But it's not cheery with birds chirping in the background, it's the endless dripping of echoing water. The lighting is just perfect too. All attention is on the bodies. Yet You still see the creeping fog on the top.
This photo tells a story. I love it a lot.
