Description This moose calf and its mama walked behind my house and on towards the pond beyond. I drove right over and snapped pics out my open window. They didn't seem to mind, although they definitely checked me out. The calf was almost as big as its mother... which means eye-poppingly huge!

Yes, they are quite the deal if they are mad. Gentle gigants normaly but scary monsters if provoked!

Glad you like it!  I actually took it from my car, but it's the same principle.  Animals are less likely to spook if one stays inside.

Besides which, moose actually kill more people in North America every year than any other animal, including bears.   They are a wee bit bad tempered and people don't realize that they can be dangerous

I find it hard to believe that moose kill more people than bears.  Around here it's usually the grizzlies doing damage.  But nevertheless, I have heard plenty of stories about people getting chased and/or hurt by moose.  Not an animal you want to mess with!

I know.  I love love moose.  One of those critters that are so ugly they are cute .  Going to have to paint one soon.  But, nonetheless, they are dangerous animals.  Look up the statistics sometime .  I think a lot of the deaths occur in Alaska, where the moose just wander around town.  But I heard of a photographer that got killed here last year.  Every bone in his body was broken.

It's kind of the same with bison.  People don't realize how dangerous they can be.  But I agree about moose being fascinating... they are just so BIG!

Really great capture in the wild. They do not seem to be as scared as in Norway though, where it is very difficult to capture them. I suspect hunting has to do something with it. In Norway, they are allowed to hunt them down every year until a certain quota. What about in the States?

Unfortunately, moose are hunted here too. However, when moose wander into our residential area they are quite safe. They do not seem very worried about people although I hear they will charge if they feel threatened. Apparently they are able to move quite fast, so I am very careful not to get too close. Still, I am like a little kid whenever I spot one... just so excited!

They are very shy in Norway. You rarely get to see them that close in the wild. I am also very excited to see them when i spot one

I have captured some in my gallery, check it out in the wildlife folder...

Lucky you, to have captured a bull moose or two! The males don't come around our residential area, just the cows and calves. And at least some of our moose aren't shy. They've been seen strolling right through town!

Merci. Even though the mooselet was almost as large as its mama, you can still tell its adorably young. Least I think so!
