Joe Ranft was a key member of Disney and Pixar, having a part in directing, screenwriting, storyboard, animation, and even voice acting. His credits include The Brave Little Toaster, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, The Little Mermaid, James and the Giant Peach, and Corpse Bride. Ranft’s brother Jerome is a sculptor for Pixar, and his son Jordy voiced Tad in Finding Nemo.At Pixar, Ranft was in every film up to Cars. He voiced Lenny the Binoculars and Wheezy in the Toy Story movies, Heimlich in A Bug’s Life, Jacques in Finding Nemo, and Red in Cars. He died during production of the latter film, which was dedicated to him (as was Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride). Jerome took up most of his brother’s roles in the sequels. Some characters weren’t so lucky; Lenny and Wheezy were written out of Toy Story 3 and 4, and Red became completely silent in Cars 2.
