I just love the contrast between how perfect (if a bit 'dated') Ermac's outfit looks while Rain is comparatively ragged and worn-looking.
Makes sense to me since Rain, while of higher status, is still just human - Ermac is anything but and might not have to worry about wear and tear despite his appearance.
