Description This image was chosen as the art winner for Magic the Gathering's You Make the Card 3 contest. It is now the Vanish Into Memory card from the ColdSnap pack.

------------------------------
Hurraah!! I'm back to painting Ok, so this is a bit messy except for the face,...but I like the mood I created.
I will certainly end up doing a number of revisions, so please, share your constructive suggestions!

Created in Photoshop 7. 2 brushes. 15 hours. I really want to learn Painter 8....and God please forgive me for my 256 mb memory card! 1 gig is next on the shopping list!

Without this pic being gorgeous, it is... I don't know, but I really like it. There is something in it, as well as the awesome palette, a deep impression of something like majesty.

Anyway, it need to be really professional and well executed for the MTG's creative to choose this for card. Even in a contest. Simply !

I think you excelled yourself on this one ... capturing a sense of motion, understated palette, very thoughtful facial expression. One of my top 10 MTG cards.

Awsome, this is an excelent peice of art and i can see why you won the contest. Though i have to agree with the-least, the face is somewhat asymetrical.

I must say that it was abit of bad luck you managed to have you awsome art printed in coldsnap of all things. Not to mention vanish into memory, a bad card in a bad set... Seems the bad luck is flowing. But still, you were printed and i think i might just try to aquire a foil of this card now. Just as my own personal tribute. : D

Out of curiosity, have they asked you to do any more art for them? As for the moment, i think i'll go explore your divinations folder. ~ heyy13

Yes, I have been told by a number of MTG devotees that this is a rather weak card.....which I honestly don't understand why that happened in the light that it was user created. It seems like the players could create a good card? Ahhh well. Like you said, it's just cool that it's on a card

WHOA! Seeing this on here freaked me out a little considering that I own a couple of copies of that card (I collect those with art I really like). I think this is the first (and probably last) time I'll find something on deviantART that I have a print of before knowing that it was on the site in the first place.

Anyway: this (to me) is one of the better-illustrated works in that particular set considering how well it captures the title imagery. Your work seamlessly fits into the recent overall style the game has utilized.

Congratulations.

Hehe. It is a little weird having my art on an MTG card, but very cool. I didn't ever expect it. One of my close friends was the model for the art, so she always has fun playing the game and flashing that card...

Thank you! I'm glad you like it.

This is a gorgeus piece! I love her beautiful face and expression as well as the overall colour scheme. The effect of sand appearing out of nowhere at her fingertip is truly worderfully done. I also like the way you let the line show and don't overpolish the picture.. so to me that skirt looks great. The way her face and hand are more sharp and focused while the rest is more sketchy and blurred creates a sense of motion and draws attention to the focal point. Also the "wrong" way composition adds a lot of strength to the picture. Can't help but it!

fuseki [2005-08-06 00:42:32 +0000 UTC]

I love her face and hands. The detail and look of it all is just gorgeous. I'm not sure I like that dress on her. It fits, but at the same time it doesn't. For such a sorceress I think a looser skirt for it would be nice to match the head wrap. Amazing work, though!

Hmmm....I hadn't considered that before, but now that you mention it, you do have a point about the skirt...

Thanks for the input!

I have changed a number of things from the original. Composition is different...I worked on the sand texture and brightness. Her face, hands...it was an all-over sort of thing

I love this, Rebekah! You did a wonderful job!!! The finger kinda disentigrating into the sand is a really cool effect, and the hair fading into the tan and dusky background is really cool. I think the only problem is the fact that her head seems decapitated-this fact seems to be due to the volume of her hair, I think. It's still awesome, the head just seems very detached from the picture.

This is awesome work, though, especially for photoshop work. All photoshop with such a beautiful work is really quite a feat!

Great use of foreshortening....the perpesctive is so engaging. I could stare at her hands and study them for ages. I really like the texture of her dress and cloak. Her expression is cool too....a little bit cocky, like she's thinking 'Just try me!'. Very pretty environment as well.
