A catterpillar forms a Chrysalis around itself to become a butterfly. Changelings look like bugs if they had babies with ponies, so I'm guessing it's a subtle nod to their insectoid heratige.

I`d say her scintone is too brown, should be more black/gray, and the whole picture is little bit too bright, but such things are just matter of taste. Great artwork!
