I wanted to paint a pretty spring bird which has also been one of my most favourite birds for a long time now.
Some years ago, we could watch many Northern lapwings (Vanellus vanellus) on the fields and pastures near our district each spring, but nowadays only a few birds arrive. I can’t say if they’ll be breeding successfully here (I’ve never seen chicks myself there), since there are many crows hanging about. That’s why it’s always wonderful to see lapwings!
This painting was also created because I really long for summer. This winter was long and cold enough!

I’m not very happy with the chick in the front, but I had to paint quickly so that I could give the painting to my granny in time. The weather was great when she visited us and we had a lovely Easter Monday – even without eggs.
And when Dad and I drove Granny home, I could actually see a lapwing!

"Iss nicht den Marienkäfer!"
Aquarell, Aquarell-Buntstifte und Deckweiß, A4.

Ich wollte einen schönen Frühlingsboten malen, der außerdem schon lange einer meiner Lieblingsvögel ist.
Früher konnten wir jeden Frühling viele Kiebitze (Vanellus vanellus) auf den Wiesen und Feldern unseres Wohnorts beobachten. Heutzutage kommen nur noch wenige und ich kann nicht sagen, ob ihre Brut wegen der vielen Krähen hier erfolgreich sein wird (ich habe dort noch nie selbst Küken gesehen). Deshalb ist es jedes Mal umso schöner, sie zu sehen!
Außerdem ist das Bild aus der Sehnsucht nach dem Sommer entstanden. Dieser Winter war echt lang und kalt genug!

Mit dem vorderen Küken bin ich nicht ganz zufrieden, aber ich musste schnell malen, damit ich das Bild noch rechtzeitig meiner Oma schenken konnte. Wir hatten tolles Wetter, als sie uns besuchte, und es war ein sehr schöner Ostermontag – auch ohne Eier.
Und als Papa und ich Oma wieder nach Hause fuhren, habe ich unterwegs tatsächlich einen Kiebitz gesehen!
