Description It's not technically brilliant but it was my first try at capturing this. For really great water in motion see *stranj 's gallery

I'm just proud of myself that I shot manual, didn't lose my lens cap, and didn't fall into the river. I completely lost track of where I was when I took this. Somewhere near Carbonado, WA.

I'll probably move this into Scrap in a day or so.

Move it into scrap? Yeah, whatever girl.... it's an amazing shot. It has such depth and movement. I love the dark green mossy tones and that water is incredible. I especially like the sheet falling from the rocks at the top.

I love this whole water series! Did you slow your shutter speed way down in order to make the water look so soft and cottony?

rowla In reply to Terri-Wilson [2004-09-30 04:53:07 +0000 UTC]

Yes, way waaaay down. Shot at F/22 and shutter speeds ranging from 2 seconds to 20 seconds, depending on the light. It's addictive.

Really beautiful. What aperture and shutter did you use? I'd like to do similar but as my aperture only stops down to F8 I can't get terribly long exposures, even with an ND8 and polariser stacked. Perhaps I need to get another ND filter.

F/22 (stopped all the way down - hello sensor dust!) and depending on the light it seems anywhere from 2-20 seconds. Mostly around 3-5 seconds.

I stack my ND2 and ND4 filter with the circular polarizer.

I'm glad you like the photo; it's my first attempt.

Very nice!
Does your camera have a full manual setting?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

craniac In reply to rowla [2004-09-24 19:11:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Yes it does have full manual capability, but with the aperture only ranging between f-2.8 and f-8, it does not have the flexibility of an SLR. But the price was right and I suppose the extra challenge posed by the camera's limitations can only help me become a better photographer. This is my last fixed lens digital though. Next camera will be a DSLR.

Why...why would this be a scrap in a few days!? It's AMAZING! The water is SO soft and beautiful, and that one stick in the water kinda looks like someone spear fishing. It's gorgeous! +fav!

haha. i know stranj's work. he is my friend to you know, ok before i digress into first grade mode of who knew him first, i want you to know when i saw this i could not distinguish between yours and his. when this was sitting in my message box i thought stranj had submitted another it was only until i looked at your name. so if we are setting stranj's work as the bar for success then i say you succeeded my friend. i truely do like this photo. i like the fact that it is only a little creek but the way you captured it gives it a big time waterfall feel to it. keep up the good work.

i love this - how do you get the moving water so smooth? is it slow shutter speed? just a stunning composition of falls and levels of green - i love how soothing it is.

Yes, slow shutter speed and some ND filters with aperture stopped all the way down.

I'm glad you liked it
