Description While walking through the Back Bay Fens in search of warblers, I heard what sounded like a screaming catbird involved in some sort of an altercation. I approached the sound to find this gray catbird trying to look very large in order to frighten off two common grackles (who didn't seem all that intimidated). Gray catbirds will often puff their breast feathers up and spread their tail feathers like this during confrontations with other species.
