for =karliashi 's contest.

there are two themes going on here.

The one thing I was going for while doing this was the idea of escape, being so angry or sad that you want nothing to do with anyone, and just want to be alone. I know personally, I'll go for a week or so every now and then just locked away in my room, depending on mood.

The other less dominant theme, and one that was more or less accidental, is the end of winter. Prelude likes winter and casts snowflakes, then the sun comes along and tries to melt it. Maybe that's why he's angry

So here we have prelude running from the sunny area to the darker, shadowy places. His shadow is unrealistic, with a higher head and open mouth, showing his angrier side.

Then there are ribbons and wisps coming from his tail/ end.

This was done in polychromos and colorsofts, with some paint (white and pearlescent) for the snowflakes.

Also, I was using references since I never do, and wanted to get the lighting better. I discovered I really suck at using them. Here's the credits anyhow, though there is little resemblence in the finished picture.

title comes from the evanescence song "understanding", since I thought the lyrics sort of fit the theme.
