Faroma is the maternal grandmother of Shylea L'Naym a major character in my AU Star Trek saga 'New Start'

She was born on a small farm on the outskirts of the city state of Camere in the Dune Sea. Her parents were farmers Vurlon Cavee and Hashba Dain. Her older brother was Crimon Cavee .

The Dune Sea, comprised of vast seas of windswept dunes, was the harshest area on Nlia and Camere, the City of Dunes, was the most remote city state in it. But to Faroma it was home and she never considered any area on Nlia as beautiful.

From the start Faroma was fearless and clever with an appreciation for mischief and as a child drove her elders to distraction with her adventuresome ways. That love of adventure never left her; she was a wanderer through and through and freedom was as vital to her spirit as air was to her body.

She spent much time among the nomadic tribes and as an adult she became a noted scout and explorer. She guided caravans to every city in the Western Continent and visited many cities in the Eastern Continent as well. She knew the deserts of her world better than many captains knew their ships and could read the land the way others read a book. Despite her independent ways she had a deep understanding of the responsibilities of leadership. She was fiercely protective and took duty very seriously.

In 2193 she met Nyshon Ryleth, a nomad of the Farseeker Tribe. He was a skilled a water-finder, a vital task in the Dune Sea and he loved to wander every bit as much as her. In 2197 they lifemated and wandered the deserts of Nlia together.

In time they were blessed with two daughters:
Kalii Ryleth (b 2202)

And Brimyl Ryleth (b 2204)

Both daughters were opposite of their parents in that both preferred city life, but they always loved the outdoors. Brimyl, the youngest, eventually moved to the Aaupa, the City of Spices and became a noted maker of perfumes. Kalii inherited her father's love of water and became an esteemed hydrologist.

In 2230 Nyshon died. Faroma grieved but took comfort in her daughters. Two years later her first grandchild, D'Ray was born to Brimyl and her lifemate giving her much joy.

Then in 2234 Kalii became pregnant but then tragedy struck. Seven months into her pregnancy Kalii contracted a rare but ultimately fatal disease. She fought the disease heroically for the remaining three months of her pregnancy determined to live long enough for her child to be born. She succeeded and in 2235 her daughter Shylea came into the world. Kalii insisted on leaving the hospital afterwards, wanting to spend her last days at home. She died a week following her daughter's birth, surrounded by her family.

Faroma was devastated over Kalii's death. While she had loved both her daughters equally, she and her firstborn had always shared a close bond. Nevertheless she turned her inner strength to comforting her son in law, Farseen L'Naym and to being there for her newest grandchild.

Faroma moved into Farseen's house in Khasha for the next year to help with the baby. Even though she eventually returned to own home, she was a regular fixture in the L'Naym residence.

Faroma was the first mother-figure that Shylea knew and grandmother and granddaughter were very close. Shylea shared her grandmother's love of the outdoors and Faroma took her on countless treks, teaching her various methods of desert survival and passing on her love of travel and exploration. She also passed on her interest in the stars. But where's Faroma had loved the stars for their light, beauty and ability to guide travelers, Shylea dreamed for visiting them and the strange worlds they shown upon.

Faroma died in 2256 but her life left a great legacy. Two years later her granddaughter, Shylea left Nlia to join Starfleet and she would travel to places that the canny scout had never imagined.
