Everything you do is magical?
I love to search your art for other hidden things. Is that a key above the kitty's head? Do you do this on purpose?
I'd love to come to a show. Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate it.

Thank you!!
Yes, it is a key and it is there on purpose. The key can symbolize all the powers of opening and closing, binding and loosing. The key is also be a symbol for knowledge and is what I had in mind for this painting. The key unlocks the door to awareness and knowing.
Thinking on it more the key could symbolize how the two characters in the painting are connected or bound together too.
I try not to reveal too much letting the viewer come to their own conclusions.
Thank you very much!!

heh. the little bird is a bit oblivious, no?
luckily the cat seems a bit too stunned at the moment to even remember what he's supposed to do with such a tasty morsel.
or maybe i've got it all wrong.
maybe they're best of friends!
now that's a cool thought.
regardless, it's yet another fantastic piece of visual story-telling on your part.
glad you added specifics of your material used. i was wondering about the surface. love the texture.
beautiful work my friend.

SethFitts In reply to dholms [2012-07-08 15:32:49 +0000 UTC]

That is a good idea of the cat being stunned by the bird forgetting who and what he is. This reminds me that I have seen cats care for animals they would normally devour (very interesting behavior!). My idea was for one of the creatures to be the pet of the other.
I am pleased you like it. Thank you very much!!!

Btw, I have a question about reclaimed wood. Is it the one with a coating (and is then called tampered wood or something; unsure but wanna learn) that is ready to be painted on? If not or anyway if you but one that isn't what stuff do you have to apply on it before starting to paint??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SethFitts In reply to ooosvn [2012-07-08 15:26:31 +0000 UTC]

My understanding of "reclaimed wood" is a wood product salvaged from something else like a house, building or piece of furniture, etc. I have seen tempered wood and I am unclear if it is "ready to paint". Some of these coatings on tempered wood have an oil in them which will not work for acrylic painting. Acrylics can be used on almost any surface as long as it is free of oils and such.
Much of the time I use a ground like gesso or a matte medium (or something that states it can be used as a ground) on surfaces. Though it is usually recommended, it is not always necessary to use a ground, like on paper or a clean absorbent surface.
I encourage you to do more research and to look into a couple of acrylic books: The New Acrylics: Complete Guide to the New Generation of Acrylic Paints by Rheni Tauchid, Rethinking Acrylic: Radical Solutions For Exploiting The World's Most Versatile Medium by Patti Brady and Acrylic Revolution: New Tricks and Techniques for Working with the World's Most Versatile Medium by Nancy Reyner
