Description Okay - if you read my journal then you would have guessed that I like the French animated film titled "Renaissance" - [link] - I created this based off of one of their on-line images and some other ideas I had for the background. I wanted to try the style they used in the film and to see if I could transfer it to a woodcut.

This is incredible. Your use of stark blacks and whites, I really like this....

Very nice job. The lines are deliberate. The hand especially is very nice- dramatic and realistic.
When I work with wood it gets stringy on me. I will try the birch plywood sometime. The flavor of the piece for me is like 1930's or 40's jazz (weird, huh )

30 or 40s jazz - I think you're right but I can't place why...

I will be commenting on your work over the weekend - I really am drawn to some of your stuff...

This is going to date me - but I had to look up what "<3" meant - I asked everyone I know (obviously they are old too) and no one knew the answer. Thanks for the heartfelt compliment...

Your lines are very "clean" . Whatsort of wood do you use?

Good stuff, as always.

Birch plywood - I go over moost of the line with a exacto-knife (razor) and then use the woodcutting tools to carve the images out. I haven't experimented with other types of wood yet, but do plan too in the future. Thanks for the comments...

oh - I should tell you, on this particular piece I accidently lopped off one of the background people's legs from the knee down and a portion of the woman's lip. I managed to find the leg and reattach with some glue but had to rework the lip a little to make it look right to me...

Thanks so much - I like your works "Solo" [link] and "soar" [link]

Your use of bright colors with the image outlined in the manner you used really grabbed my attention.
