Description I spent a number of evenings watching the series "The War" [link] by Ken Burns on Public Television...it got me thinking about those people involved and the hardships they endured just prior to World War II during the Great Depression. The resilience and fortitude those people had in the face of great and overpowering desolation, loss, and despair. We could and should learn some lessons from those people.

This print is carved on a 4ft by 2ft (120 cm X 60 cm) piece of birch plywood and printed on newsprint (Final print coming soon).

Love woodcuts, I bet this is impressive to see in person at that size.

When I printed this I had to use the press at the local university and pinned it on the wall of the studio to dry...I could see it through the window (at night) from across a large open area as I left the Student Union. I have never looked at my own work with this kind of perspective...it was kinda cool.

Thanks for the comments and favorite.

I agree with FrauleinAngst - you captured the feel of the era, you told the story(ies) of that time with just that one image. Very nice. And by the way, good to see your work back here again!

Thanks sir. I certainly appreciate the feedback. I have a large screenprint of FDR with this image in it and liked it so much I blew it up to this woodcut. I know I have posted rather limitedly - family, school and work have been wearing out my time for other things...thanks again.

I did! I also kept the recording on my DVR and have watched it a couple of times...everytime I watch it it other details amaze me - like how the made the rain show up in black and white...how is everything on your end...

...I like your violin as well.

How the rain showed up in black and white - yeah, I didn't think of that! I se what you mean. I've only seen the movie about twice. I'm sure if I kept watching it more and more new things would show up. Things are going well. I've got gallery-representation now and am working part-time at my day job, so this has become the year I try to transition into doing my drawing "for real." It's a bit overwhelming, but it's fun too.....

You are really getting good at those wood blocks! I think you captured the feel of the era as I had the feeling before I read the description.
