Description The bare and hungry dawn awaits my dreams
but I haven’t slept.
Tin cans rolled down the alley all night
and a stray cat claimed its territorial rights
with strangled, banshee cries.
Most people do not venture down this alley.
They think it is haunted.

Through slitted eyes I see graffiti on the walls
predicting my fate, and sweet wrappers
curling round my feet.
Christmas has not found its way here.
Carols linger in the distance without their words.
Sparkle is tucked away on a forgotten star.

Sometimes I hear children laughing
but are they real?
Sometimes I smell spices and mince pies.
Sometimes I see angels, wings outspread
waiting for me.
I am hungry.
Perhaps they will not have to wait much longer.

Thanks, when it is really cold it brings a bleakness.  I had things to do but too cold in my bedroom - I only wanted to sit around the fire.  Had a nice Sunday lunch though and a small Xmas pudding for after.  I love the puddings and have about half a dozen before Xmas but on Xmas day itself I have trifle! Food, for me, is a good comforter.
