Cool. That one served on the U.S.S. Bunker Hill. I have the same type and fighter group (VF-84), but with number 110 on the fuselauge.

Model is made out of plastic. Paint used is enamels plus some oils and chalk powders.

what does the oil and chalk powder do?

shonenred In reply to silentnight745 [2006-12-16 22:12:13 +0000 UTC]
Oils are used to accentuate the panel lines and make them visible. At some point, I use oils (oil paints) for painting the craft. The chalk powder is used to dust the aircraft a bit. Since it's a carrier based aircraft, ground dust is minimal, but a bit more on the soot comming from the gun barrels.

The details were moulded in. Careful and precise painting will let the details show.

hmm... ya its hard for me to get everything even. Do you use brushes or an airbrush?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
shonenred In reply to silentnight745 [2006-12-19 12:25:07 +0000 UTC]
Both. For the larger parts, it's an airbrush. For the teeny dials and such, a handbrush

There's a lot my friend. Check these brands: Badger, Tamiya Spayworks, Paache, Gunze Sangyo. There's only veeerrryyy slight differences between these brushes. I'm using a Badger 175 Crescendo and it had never failed me.

It's a beauty! The quick glance made me think I was staring at a real plane on the run way, just photoshop away the runway. Damn, I am enthralled by your skills. Puts my simple style to shame on the mecha models. Excellent job!
