I love this kind of meeting between a very defined and realistic figure and more free, abstract elements. The juxtaposition here is especially striking! He seems to be dissolving and melting into the background. His facial expression casts him as confused and bewildered; his whited out mouth eludes to this being involuntary. There's so much to study and glean from this piece...

How is this in scraps? This is a very well-done, formal piece. The composition works really well and the contrast is great. I like the sketch lines shown in the hair...it really gives the piece layers. The coloring in the skin is quite sophisticated as well; I love the bold (and successful) move to put blue in the shadows. The contrast in detail in the face v. the background is really interesting to look at.

I don't know this kind of feels to me like the reflection of a person's soul. One side of the environment
appears dark and gloomy while the other feels warm. The darkness seems to be engulfing the light for
it is dominate on one side and gradually smothering the warm bright colors on the opposite side.
The figure appears to be unable to speak with the white wash covering it's mouth, but they don't
have to for the eyes are filled with sorrow, remorse, regret. This feels like the sort of subliminal type of
message you would find in tarot cards, particularly in the Rider Waithe deck. This is a very powerful piece
here.

Oh this is beautiful... his eyes look like they are crying.. the colors dripping down and the white blocking his lips are all quite moving. This totally shouldn't be in scraps!!
