I can understand people disliking her and even hating her if it's for a good reason and if they're civil about it, 'cause I understand that she could've been written better...
But if someone rabidly hates her and has just the most gruesome, abusive and even murderous intents towards her and even compares her to Hitler, sorry, but they're a psychopath. End of story.
Seriously, getting just absolutely bent out of shape over a fictional character? Get the heck over yourself!

Overhated? Oh yes indeed.
Unfairly? Well, that's debateable. I wouldn't say the hate was without reason. The commen reason for the hate is because she was easily forgiven after basicly doing chrono-terrorisum and prior that she was making a sudo-communist cult with an anti-cutie mark agenda.
By all means, I do agree that the hate has gotten too much, espeically since the reformation is hardly relivent now-a-days anymore, I just wouldn't say "Unfairly", because Unfairly would mean unreasonably or without a point.
Starlight is more of a overhated character with an outdated reason why so. But I figure it wasn't as catchy as "Unfairly".
But, I do otherwise agree, those certain people forget that this happened in a show called "Friendship is Magic", not exactly something where villains are met with realistic end results for their actions 100% of the time. This was a show that did it for even Discord and Nightmare Moon, and those two are still fan faverites. Or is there a stigma that villains who messed with time are suppose to always be given the worse and how Starlight is given shit because that rule was violated?
Or just as much the Starlight haters are also Lily Peet fans and they're just echoing Peet's opinions to sometimes unhealthy degrees.

Starlight is the Best Pony and is much better than Twilight (in my opinion)
I had as much hate for Twilight as alot of people have for Starlight I don't hate her as much anymore but I still don't like her
I hated Twilight since the begining and loved Starlight both as a Villan and a "Hero"

She had an idelolgoy that made her believe what she was doing was right, but of course it isn't. It's not like she's a villain... oh wait yes she is! Also did you miss the whole realising the errors of her ways and then reforming thing?Β

People who want Starlight kicked off the show because "she was forgiven too easily and rewarded with friendship when she should have been locked up or executed" so Sunset can take her placeΒ should remember this:
I'm pretty sure the things Sunset did weren't any better than what Starlight did. She acted like she was better than Celestia, reacted like a spoiled brat whenΒ Celestia didn't give her what she wanted,Β was mean just for the sake of being mean because it put her on a sadistic power trip, made everyone's life miserable on purpose because she enjoyed itΒ and even tried to take over Equestria using theΒ denizens of another world. Celestia could have easily charged her with treason, but she didn't.
Considering all that, I really don't get how "Sunset is so much better than Starfart Mary Sue Sunset ripoff who ruined this show."
If you love Sunset, that's perfectly okay with me. If you don't like Starlight, that's fine.Β Just remember that Sunset was just as bad as Starlight once was, was every bit as psychotic and immature,Β and got off just as easily as she did, before you talk about how you want Starlight executed or locked up so Sunset can take her place.

Sunset was redeemed. She merely wanted to go back to Equestria and take over. She worked hard for redemption, but still was hated by students. Starlight? She UNRAVELD whole history, if SHE didn't decide to give up, Equestria would not EXIST. Not only she was forgiven, but she was overpowered as HELL. Twilight as ALICORN could not do anything to Glimmer. And the role of student of Princess of friendship is NOT a punishment, I see it as a privilege. Give me better character development, then we'll talk about not kicking characters from the show.

Flainfan In reply to Stuntpony [2017-12-28 01:41:42 +0000 UTC]
Equestria would indeed still exist, it would just be a very different place. She interrupted a race between foals, she didnβt prevent Equestria from being founded. Also, she didnβt actually do anything illegal when she was in the past. Like I said, all she did was disrupt a race which is morally wrong but not illegal. Everything that happened afterwards was nothing more than the butterfly effect and she had no direct involvement.

Have you SEEN what happened when she had undone the superweapon? It was a WASTELAND, and not in Fallout or any sort of game sense. It was a literal barren surface of a lifeless space rock. Only atmosphere remained. Nothing might have even existed in the first place. This is outside any sort of law. What kind of law sees that you can make a country fall from something. And even then, I'd say it the national security, that is being invoked here. Yeah, well I think that she knew, she just didn't want to believe that those six were the safety on the world.

"Merely?" Yeah, Sunset just wanted to usurp Celestia's throne by using an army of brainwashed teenagers whom she cared nothing about. Not like she could get charged with treason or anything like that. She could have been imprisoned, too. And she was downright nasty to everyone in the school, just for the sake of being nasty because Celestia didn't give her what she wanted and expelled Sunset out of a justified fear that Sunset would use Celestia's teachings for selfish reasons. What would have happened to all those teenagers if Sunset's plan succeeded and they were of no more use to her?
I'm not saying what Starlight did was right or justified by any means, nor am I saying Sunset doesn't deserve her redemption. Starlight knew she screwed up when she saw the wasteland her screwing with time caused, but didn't want to believe it. Her philosophy that she formed her entire life around wouldn't allow for it. But she did finally realize it and that's why she stepped down. She constantly beats herself up over the things she's done, just like Sunset and damn near has an anxiety attack over having to make new friends. And let's not forget that Twilight herself was not above meddling with time in Season 2.
And yes, Starlight is powerful as hell, and if you notice, it usually causes more problems than it fixes. It's her biggest flaw. She's helpless without her magic, and when she does use it, things usually go wrong.

I don't understand how anyone can actually like her. She was the most abusive villain the show has ever put on and yet, she never has to answer to any of it, if anything, she is rewarded and after years of abusing others for her own gain she is then told to come stay in a castle with a bunch of ponies looking out for her.
Tell me wear in all of every universe, that is fair?
Having copped a lot of abuse in the past, Glimmer is just a bitter real life reminder that those who abuse others seldom answer for it, no matter how much good you do after it, it still doesn't make it right.
Its a mute point for me anyway. I was honestly so disgusted I never returned to the show after the end of season 5 and no, I don't feel like I'm missing out.

I think she should be erased from history.
Look,Β I'm all for glimmer being forgiven, but she's never had to answer for any of the abuse she put all those ponies through, she's escaped judgement everywhere she goes. If she were to truly face what she did I might be ok with it. Lets see her go without her cutie mark for a few years...
