Description Training Ground submission for "Pumpkins in Equestria"

Why does everypony-- and everything-- steal AJ's hat? O.o

10/12/13- I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHIN' BEHIND THOSE RANDOM FAVES!!! XD Got featured on EQD again! www.equestriadaily.com/2013/10… I don't deserve dis!! Thanks to whoever featured it; it was very much appreciated!

This turned out very different than what I first intended it to be. Derp. XD It's still pretty good, though.
Another Training Ground submission for %Ponies-For-Everypony . I must say these training grounds are giving me excellent ideas, and they are perfect practices for certain things. In this one I practiced shadows, backgrounds, and most importantly, angles. I wanted this at a little bit more at an upward angle, but hey, it still gives the effect I wanted.

I had my Mom to thank for this idea. I looked at the journal explaining this week's Training Ground when I was on my way to the mountains last weekend, and when I shared the topic with the rest of my family, my Mom suggested to have a pumpkin "Totem Poll" with an orange character on top (she suggested a Pokemon, Charmeleon, but then I told her that this was MLP themed). I loved the idea, so I altered it a bit to end up with the results shown here. So yep, I thank my Mom this time around.
The only thing I'm a little awkward on with this is Applejack and where she stands there. It isn't too noticable, but it almost seems like she's standing in mid air behind the other pumpkin. I fixed it the best I could, though, by putting her front hoof at more of an angle so it looks like she's standing on the back of the pumpkin. Hoped that worked out!

This took about 4-5 hours again, with distraction and a long break for running. Gosh, I'm so proud of my increasing speed.
I think that's all I gotta say right now. Hope ya'all like this pic, and stick around for more; I hope to have another thing submitted by the end of the day!

Applejack belongs to Hasbro and Lauren Faust
The art belongs to me, . If you'd like to use this in any way, please contact me first!

PfE Training Grounds critique is a GO!:

Man, I just don't see any flaws with this. I don't even have any nitpicks. You have a good use of perspective here, making that pumpkin tower look like it's towering.  The light lines up with the pumpkins to give a good line for the eye to follow.  Even the blurry grass in the foreground just adds more depth to this piece.  There's always a way to improve a piece, but I sure can't find a way to do so with yours.  Great job.

Flaweless, eh? Huh. Odd. We have two different views. XD

Anywho, thank ya kindly for your critique! I can agree with you that I can definitely improve, and I know practically all my flaws in this pic-- which, to my surprise, no one else seems to be seeing-- but if people like what I've done then I can't complain. Thanks again!

I don't know about "flawless", but I just didn't see any at the time   I'm looking and I still don't see any major flaws.  You're going to have to point out what you see. Keep in mind that I'm talking about big things that just don't work, not little things that could just be a matter of taste.  For example, some folks might not like your rough, sketchy outlines (I usually draw using solid, usually black, deliberate lines), but that's not a flaw.

If it's an issue with colors, then you have me there as I'm colorblind, but as far as I can tell, everything still works.

I suppose one nitpick could be where AJ's front hooves are placed, but even then that's me stretching.

Seriously, I really like this piece.

I have a sudden flashback to Skyward Sword when you have to help with the Pumpkin Harvest at the Lumpy Pumpkin.

Excellent use of lighting and shading

Skyward Sword is the most recent Legend of Zelda game.

Aha, no wonder I didn't recognize the name. X3 I'm not into Zelda in any way, shape or form, so... yea. That explains that. XD

Hey, that's what family is for; to be supportive. My Mom is incredibly supportive, and unlike many parents that are apparently very sensitive, she doesn't care what I show interest in. Just as long as I'm doing what I love, if I'm enjoying myself and I'm improving in my art stills, I'm as good as gold.

If a family shuns you just because of your interest... Well, I just don't know what else to say other than that's plain wrong! Heck, it's terrible! That's what I call an intolerant family! XP I was lucky to grow up within a family that supports my artistic goals. I feel bad for those who don't.

Well, the first part's a good thing...

As for the second part, it shouldn't be much of a problem. Though I guess ya shouldn't take that type of advice for me; I share almost all of my art with my sisters and Mom so they could critique it, so it was as natural as me getting into Sonic when I started drawing MLP. I guess all I can say is when you're ready, bring it up lightly. Don't make such a big deal about it, and odds are they won't either. Bring up benefits as well; if they know that the MLP community is actually a caring and supportive place, I bet your parents and family will most likely take the news positively.

Being part of a fandom that is supposidly made for kids shouldn't be taken in a negative way at all, for it is just an interest. We as people are free to like whatever we want, and we shouldn't get shunned about it. At least, that's what I believe.

I adore that the pumpkins have different facial expressions I realize all grass is curved (almost all) but having it look that way makes it look like the wind's blowing and brings more "depth" to the image ^^ like there's movement, making the tentative pile they form look all the more like it could fall over, bringing yet more depth

Heheh, yea, I figured I'd give 'em personality by doin' that.

I guess I could agree on ya there. ^w^ The default Photoshop brushes can actually be helpful every so often, thank goodness. XD

I thank ya kindly for your compliments, friend! They are all much appreciated!

warmth is a pony thing not that it's limited to ponies, but it comes naturally

(just not real-life ponies... they bite )
