Description

Last November, I was commissioned to do something I never have before. My client gave me two photos that her husband had taken and asked me to paint them in watercolor! This is the first one, featuring her cute floppy-eared dog, Bea.

This was an interesting experience. The beginning was simple; I used my small light box to draw lines directly from the photo in pencil. Then it got difficult. The sand was torture at first. I've never painted sand before, and especially not in a manner meant to imitate a real-life scene. I felt a lot better about it once I got to the end, speckling the paper with paint :3 Painting Bea was easy and fun; I love arting animals XD I took liberty with the vibrancy of the colors. I figured the photo already existed and I love color. My client chose me to do this, so why not do it in my style?

Graphite and Sakura Koi watercolor on Strathmore 140lb. cold press paper. Approximately 8x10".

Whew! One down, one to go! The following thumbnails lead to a couple bonuses.

Thank you very much The texture was something that challenged me especially. I learned a lot in my attempts to bring the sand from my source image into the watercolor painting.
