Great art is all about moving the observer in some way, touching their hearts, or conveying and inspiring any combination of energy, mood, emotion, story, wonder, beauty/ugliness, message, concept, idea, or thought. This comes before all else, including the media used and artistic skill. This piece is full of energy, beauty, and story. I could easily be inspired to create a number of story lines from this image alone.
There are 412 human emotions and only 20 facial muscles to express them. Drawing a face is not that hard, the challenge is in capturing personality, emotion, attitude, spirit, and story of the character's face. Something you did an excellent job of here.
Your painting style is full of energy and it is dynamic, something often missing with other artists. The entire piece is full of movement, which helps it to come alive.
Your color palette works beautifully.

for some weird reason you sound like me...I keep harping on about dynamics and movements all the time. It's something I always keep in mind (except from the few occasions I choose against it for whatever purpose of the image...). That, and a story behind the image. And like you, I am a firm believer that this should come before any technical skills as an artist.
Of all the comments I have ever received I think you must be the first one to ever notice and pointing out those few elements which I always try to incorporate in nearly all my pieces...Thank you. That was uplifting

It was my pleasure to write to you. Some art inspires me to do so. I think some artists get so tied up in their technique or their style that they don't pre plan things like light sources, proper perspective, the story behind the piece, energy levels, mood, emotion, etc. Painting with light and shadow is also a big deal to me.
