makes me wonder what a 24th century refit of this classic ship would look like....

I'll never forget that moment in the movie theater, seeing the refit for the first time...what an elegant design.

Indeed! Although I'm partial to the TOS version, the most elegant one is the TMP one.

So people reading this exchange know what we mean, specifically the 3rd TMP phaser, seen in movies 5 & 6.

Oops, got a little confused and plugged the wrong pic---This is, however, my favorite version of the Enterprise.

Good model, my favourite ship. More pics please, maybe flying through a nebula or Saturn etc.

And deep down in their hearts, although beating the rythms of a dozen alien worlds, they all knew they were the thin line standing between the world as they knew it and the uncomprehensible force drifting toward it.

Yeah that's the downside of any ship named Enterprise, always launched unprepared, it happened with the (Non-existant) NX-01, the 1701 in TMP, The 1701-A in Star Trek V, and 1701-B in Generations.

And even the Classic 1701 - the novel Final Frontier shows her being a half-completed, unnamed semi-testbed, without weapons, yet saving the day. Interestingly, it was George Kirk, Jim's father, who suggested the name "Enterprise" to capt. Robert April.
