with biramous limbs. The attenuated digits that originally supported wings or patagia have been repurposed into nimble raptorial claws specialized for snatching fish. I think it would be fun to reverse-engineer this one into its original flying or gliding form--I imagine it quite agile in the air.

I'm still really struggling with how to handle the contrast on these toned paper drawings...They always seem to end up either muddy and neutralized or garish and over-saturated regardless of how I try to balance them (I opted for the latter evil in this case). Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I want one clone-budded to my shoulders, for exactly that reason!  XD

If I had to pick an enhancement, a nice, long, prehensile tail with some sort of basic hand or gripper at the end would be ideal.

Oh, totally...If I was allowed to get transphyletic with it, I could also go for a snake or a scorpion's telson.  Stomatopod or eurypterid claws would be nice too.  Pretty much anything that allows me to impale people, really!

I'd also like antennae or barbels, but mainly for aesthetic reasons

Well of course MAINLY aesthetic reasons!

Well, being able to secrete love pheromones is just bonus.

There are certainly worse things one could secrete:

The more I read your work the more I feel the necessity of an overarching story for your sketches. Picture it;
It is the year 2267, and a nascent AI has inherited the earth after nuclear war and so she has decided to rebuild the biosphere, but without any prior knowledge of preexisting life and only a whole lotta mutants to go on. So we have ocean life built out of deep sea creatures, chimerapes roaming predatory jungles derived from barnacles, and alternasaurs walking around after after A.L.I.C.E* came across a natural history museum and thought the paleontology department was an indoor zoo.  And more sentient races then you can wave your phalanges at, all at various stages and specialties in tech.  And maybe Alice gets in contact with the AI of a defunct generational ship drifting back through the solar system after the engines gave up halfway through the Orrt cloud. And A.L.I.C.E falls in love with C.L.E.M.E.N-tine, but has to act quickly to mount a rescue mission before the ship falls into Jupiter! Action, Romance, Computer Lesbians! Everything you want and more in Thomas Tapir's epic debut, EARTH 2267; A Tale Of Two Ultraintelligences!

*It doesn't stand for anything, she just likes the way it sounds like it stands for something.

In many or most infinite probabilistic worldlines, that's probably exactly the way it plays out.

I have to confess, I now feel an overwhelming compulsion to resolve those acronyms into plausible pseudo-sci-fi designations!

I tried to get him to draw me something before I anaesthetized him for vivisection, but it was pathetic, he could barely even hold a crayon.

Thanks so much man, I'm truly humbled.  You know I'm going to have to use that as a promotional quote for my upcoming exhibition on extrasolar zoology, right?
