Description

My first postersortathing featuring the growth process of Blue Tits (Cyanistes caeruleus).

Remember that drawing I made a while back with the Blue Tits in the nestbox from that research course I had like over half a year ago? Weelll back then I was also planning on making a drawing/posterthing of the growth process of Blue Tits, because I saw them growing up and noticed their growth process wasn’t really captured in a drawing or poster or anything yet, soooo I wanted to do that!

Sadly, during the period of the research course I never got much further than a few sketches (which was to be expected, I mean I started working on this idea a few weeks before the research ended). BUT now, over half a year later, I thought it high time I finished this thing and wanted to do it before the end of the year (which was a lot of work for a few days, considering I still had most of my work ahead of me).

This thing went through so many goddamn iterations, especially in the way the separate stages where ordered and the positions of the chicks, I constantly moved them around and changed their looks. But I have to say I’m very happy with the way they're all organised now and with how the poster looks.

EDIT: I'VE ACTUALLY FINISHED THIS THING NOW! WOOO

BUT DESPITE ALL OF THAT.... this thing isn't actually finished yet...
'But Tiramo, then what the hell are you doing uploading this thing?' Weeelll, like I said, I really wanted to finish this thing before the end of this year. Sadly however, I did not manage to do that, yet I still wanted to upload it, and so that's what I did. Sooo yea I will in the future, somewhere next year, update this thing and improve upon it.

Thank you so much! Yea the idea behind this was as a sort of present to the leader of a blue tit researchgroup I worked with, as he really liked to put a ton of posters and infographics in the blue tit research station, aand the researchers and volunteers are constantly busy with chicks of all different ages, sooo then an infographic about it could help I thought.

You're welcome! I can imagine that this would be very helpful at the research station! Maybe you should make more of these to be able to distinguish between species? It's often pretty difficult to determine species at young age.

So, there are only two research facilities that I know of that study blue tits, and that's Wageningen or Groningen in the Netherlands. It's on your profile page that you're from the Netherlands - so am I, and actually also a biologist! Behavioural ecology from Utrecht, to be more precise. I'm doing a PhD now into behaviour and welfare of pet parrots in Utrecht. It's funny to meet a fellow biologist/ecologist on a random community xD

Yess I was thinking of doing that, but the problem with that is that I unfortunately don't have any reference material for the inbetween days, so I won't be 100% sure if what I'm drawing will be correct. But I will most definitely try, because you're very right, being able to distinguish the age between the days is very important for the research. There have been plenty of occasions where we and others weren't sure how old a chick was, so then having some sort of reference material in the form on an inforgraphic could be very helpful I reckon!

Haha yea I noticed you're a biologist as well and indeed also from the Netherlands! Small world, haha.
But yea I study in Groningen. Currently in my third and last year of my Ecology and Evolution Bachelor, after which I'll do my master and then hopefully also a PhD like you. Which sounds awesome by the way, your PhD.

This is really cool! I like it. It looks so professional, as if you could find it in some book about birds

Thank you both so much! It's really fantastic to hear you think it could actually appear in a book. If that were to actually happen one day my life would be complete xD
