I know, I figured people would make that comparison. Skipper is a normal Corsair, Swift is a Super Corsair (which means he has a 28 cylinder engine instead of the normal 18 cylinder.)

Oh my goodness how tragic! I wanted them to escape and live happily ever after with mates that they chose. But alas, as these futures tend to be, that's a rare exception to the rule. What a horrible life these machines live. I almost feel like they have it worse than the alternate If You Tame Me future in which the Cutters succeed in their goal, starting with their experiments finally proving a success with Ripslinger.

As did I, but they didn't escape judgement like Shay and Elena did. In this universe, humans take advantage of living machines. And for quite a few living machines, those who benefit from the races and earn money, fame, or pleasure, they actively support the system. Swift and Shira were born into the league and had no choice, like thousands of others. Racing is all they know.

This is the first time I've ever drawn a Corsair. And you know what? I really liked it. Swift came out a lot better than Shira. Interestingly enough, the Corsair is my dad's favorite old WWII airplane. I think I might do another one of these.

Oh they're very much my favorite WWII plane as well, with the Mustang coming in at a close second. Although the first time I drew Skipper I absolutely hated it. God he's got so many vents and exhausts and hinges and things and his landing gear just about killed me.

I hate landing gear, too. With Swift, there was a line for his cowling that interfered with his mouth. That said, I think he came out better than Shira did.
I'd like to do another one of these, but who should it be about? I considered Firestang, since he went back into the racing world. (Sort of) He tests superchargers for racers, so perhaps one expresses interest in him. What if a female P-51 tries to sway him over to her team? He's young and impulsive. But he learns her primary sponsor sought to take advantage of him, hoping they'd have children that would possess his Griffon engine. He gladly backs away and wishes he never met her.

Nah, just a ploy. She suckered him in with her charm and good looks, and a promise to let him have her whenever he wanted. Firestang realized he was being played when he went to her home in Miami. Met with armed security, they held him against his will. The company decided if they couldn't coax him to love and have children with her willingly, they would resort to less pleasant methods. Luckily, Firestang always retained two of the .50 caliber machine guns he was born with. Fighting his way out, he got away and returned to St. Petersburg. The racer met him one final time, to explain herself. Chasing her away, Firestang knew her words were anything but sincere. Eventually, he did find someone else, a young Spiteful like his father. She worked as a courier and tested superchargers beside him, to enhance her performance for long distance routes.

Ah. I could see why any racing team wouldn't mind having his stock in it. Griffon engines are quite a valuable, although very rare, asset. It's the reason why Ripslinger's team were all too happy to turn a blind eye to his blatant, rampant promiscuity. They were hoping that with as many females as he was going through, he'd eventually meet his Bond-Mate. Even better, despite Rip's one covenant with himself that fellow racers were off-limits, they could still dream that he'd fall for one of the top females, because in my headcanon, the male racer's team in a Bonded-Pair have immediate rights to any offspring produced over the female's team. Of course, after the events of If You Tame Me, we all know that these aspirations were in vain.

Something that could easily churn out 3,000 horsepower with minimal tuning and allow an aircraft to reach and maybe surpass 500mph? What's not to like?
As for Rip, I remembered something about him entertaining as many as three ladies at once, and managing to wear all of them out. If that's the case, Jesus, that guy must be Chuck Norris in terms of stamina; endless. And that makes sense why they would bide their time and hope he fell for someone. He goes through females faster than a minigun can shoot bullets. Odds of probably state he's bound to fall for one of them.
I also considered writing something about Rip meeting his sister again. By then, Rip will soon be a father. The P-51 he married is pregnant with his twins. He just finished a race in Vancouver and is about to head home when he feels a tremor in his soul, something that convinces him to stay. And sure enough, there she is. (I don't remember what she looks like or what color her eyes are) Isabelle stares at her brother in disbelief. With one touch, when the touch their propeller hubs together, Rip knows for certain it's her. He's overcome with emotion. First, he's in disbelief. 'I can't believe it's you.' Then, he's angry. 'Where the f were you? Do you know what the f I've gone through trying to find you?! I thought you were dead!' Then, he bawls his head off 'Isabelle, I'm so sorry! I'm so happy to know you're okay.' She forgives her brother for tearing the orderlies apart at the orphanage. She understood he was so attached to her and distraught, he didn't want anything bad to happen to her. She explains she'd been in hiding, too afraid to be seen near him after being attacked by the same people that killed their family. With no choice, she watched from afar as he rose to stardom. Having found someone to love, she had a son, who she named Ripley. Together again for the first time in a long time, I think Rip would not want to leave her at first, but then he'd understand they had their own lives. I think he'd be content just to know she's safe and happy, and that he's not alone in the world. Then the siblings go their own ways. Of course, I don't think I'll be writing this out.

Oh yes, Rip's got quite the appetite. It didn't matter to him that the majority of those girls were only in it for the "I slept with a celebrity" bragging rights, he was all too happy to take advantage of that for his own gratification and then ruin these girls for future men to come while he was at it. But the problem is that none of it was ever enough. Without a fully-functioning Soul, it's all just, ah, empty calories, if you will. Pleasurable, sure, but utterly aimless affairs that brought him no happiness or sense of belonging.
Right. There's all sorts of ways that that meeting could go. After reading If You Tame Me, you just want so much for Rip to find Isabelle after all he's been through and put himself through and just finally find happiness. I still haven't quite decided where I'm going with it myself, because I will be continuing the headcanon with my next big story arc, if I can ever get the motivation to write again. It's still difficult for me to picture Rip in a serious relationship with someone, let alone a father.

I remember now. Like you said when he was, ahem, entertaining Dusty, he was hardly getting anything from it. I know that's different than his times with ladies, but even so, the experience was hollow. Like he was spinning his wheels but not going anywhere.
Maybe if given enough time, or better, a reason to want to be in a productive relationship, he might come around. Call me foolishly optimistic, like I have been for some time, but I think he has potential. But in terms of meeting his sister, it really is anyone's guess. Rip isn't exactly predictable. I can definately picture him getting angry and saying 'where have you been? Do you know how long I've been trying to find you?' For all I know, it could be too much for him and he'd faint where he stood. I don't think he'd have an engine seizure and drop dead, but the disbelief would probably land on him like a ton of bricks and deliver a strong shock to his soul. Maybe he'll be indescribably happy, embrace her and bawl his head off. I simply don't know.

Well I'm sure Dusty didn't really find it all that entertaining. At least not at first. And it was very different than all the other times before. You see Dusty's Soul is so bright, so pure and strong, that even in such a broken, weak state, Ripsligner's Soul was able to recognize it and was drawn to it. And no, Rip is anything but predictable. He could faint, he could react angrily, or even aggressively, or he could even be overjoyed, but being as unaccustomed to such positive feelings, it could be too much for him and could cause him to have a psychotic episode, where his default feelings of anger and aggression could come back into play.

I figured that, considering Rip was violating him. By far one of the more shocking things I've read. Considering what I've done to my characters, (Paige, Nathan...) how am I any better?
That sounds more likely, a psychotic episode, something he thought he'd never have again. Picture her horror as her brother's eyes roll back and he revs his engine, spinning his propellers in her direction. He glances at her and she knows this isn't the real him. The aggression is just and automatic response. He wants to embrace his sister and speak to her, but he can't help himself. Perhaps the first meeting ends with her leaving, but not before she told him where she lived. After cooling off and accepting she was alive, I think then would be a good time for the questions to begin. Even if it's over the phone, so they don't have to see one another face to face and risk another episode.

If he killed her, he'd never forgive himself. Either way, he'd ask himself 'what have I done?' He'd probably kill himself shortly thereafter, or at the very least attempt it. If he hurt her, say, cut her with his propeller, she'd ask 'what happened to you?' Seeing the fear in her eyes, her fear of him, that would probably knock some sense into him. He'd hate himself and as she tried to comfort him, he'd pull away. 'Isabelle, I don't deserve love. I don't deserve you.' She'd say 'Rip, you're my brother. I don't hate you. I'm scared for you. You're all I have, too.' I think he'd bawl his head off after realizing he'd finally found her, and now he harmed her. There would have to be a subsequent meeting, where cooler heads could prevail.

If that's the case, he very well could kill her. He tears into her, spraying her oil and vital fluids everywhere as she screams for him to stop, only he doesn't. He doesn't relent until her terrified screams are suddenly silenced. Coming to his senses after a few minutes, he looks down at his sister as her oil drips from his propellers, jaws, and cowling. He didn't just kill her, he tore her to pieces. If he did that, what then? He killed the only family he had left.

I actually had the specific song that she's singing the melody to, but unfortunately I've completely forgotten what it was that I'd picked. But her voice singing that song is burned into his mind and it would no doubt break him from his rage. No one else but her would know to sing that song.

Well public transit becomes less feasible in areas that are spread out, it really only works in really densely populated areas, and it's not really that public transit does anything to lessen surface traffic, because we all know that all the places where public transit is a big thing still have the worst traffic in the world (think SF, LA, NY etc.), it's just simply better than sitting in that traffic.

My grandparents on my father's side live there, in Marietta. It's absurd. In terms of traffic, it wasn't so bad. It took me just over an hour to get there, about just a little more to get back. We already had orientation. Speakers came in to address school rules and policies. We did cover a few basic things, like the three axis of motion. Lateral, longitudinal, and vertical. Flaps, ailerons, and the rudder. Pitch, roll, and yaw. Camber and chord. Elementary, almost. I already knew just about everything the instructor presented. A of the few aircraft he presented in slides I wanted to correct because the model number was wrong. I think our instructor might be a guy who knows how to fix airplanes, but doesn't so much know individual models. Then again, this was only the first day.

Right, but even basic math can stump me. Dyscalculia is basically the numerical version of dyslexia, only in dyscalculia some of the neurons in the math part of your brain just don't fire. In my case it may as well not even be there. If I have to do any kind of math, I have to have a calculator because I have no ability to visualize numbers in my head because my brain doesn't associate them with anything. If I'm counting in my head, I'm doing so by memory alone, and I usually can't get past 20 or 30 before I start back tracking and repeating numbers. Even if I have a calculator I can still mess up. Some numbers get confused with other numbers, and if there's a sequence of numbers where you have two of the same number next to each other, the number that appears before those numbers, I'll see two of instead. And to make matters worse, that part of your brain also works out distance, space, and direction. Embarrassingly enough, I can't tell left from right.
Oh wow a Thunderbolt huh? What a perfect name for the fellow too.

I've never heard of that before. I imagine that'll complicate matters if you ever became a mathematician. Numbers and you are like oil and water, aren't they? They don't exactly mix.
As for Grizzly, he and his two brothers, Fang and Talon, were born as a result of their parents, both retired champions, needing to create successors. They began life as fertilized eggs implanted into a surrogate aircraft, who worked for their parent's team. A freemartin and therefore sterile, she nurtured, gave birth, and raised the three siblings like her own while their real parents retired in style and had children they actually desired. Grizzly stood out as the fastest of the bunch, but his brothers acted as decoys and obstacles, enabling their brother to win. He distributed the fame and wealth of their winnings evenly, until one day, his greed and desire to stand out got to his head. Grizzly wanted it all for himself.
I'll write out the description later and post the drawing tomorrow.

Yes, that's exactly what it's like, water and oil. I'd never heard of it either until quite by accident I was at the doctor's office for something else and something I'd said made her say, "Have you ever thought that maybe you have math dyslexia?" and I was like, "What the hell is that? That's a thing?" Sure enough I went to a neurologist and was diagnosed, and then my whole life suddenly made sense. Anyway it's very rare, but of course, me being me, I've been blessed with it. It doesn't make the simplest things very complicated. There's things you can do to cope, but the problem is that I was diagnosed when I was already eighteen years old, and those things really only work in children when your brain is still developing. I never knew that there was anything actually wrong with me, all those years I just thought that I was stupid.

I know I'm not stupid, it's just how my brain happens to be wired or else not wired. But it doesn't do much for a person's self-esteem when they're in a staff meeting going over numbers and you're counting with your fingers under the table, or getting lost because you can't read a map and don't know left from right. That being said, while very rare, dyscalculia is most often reported in people who have careers as authors or journalism.
