Description I built these two from the new Munster's double kit: [link]

This kit was a must have for me, becuase I have a model collection of Movie/ TV cars and both the Dragula and the Koach are a must have for a collection like that!

I did do some modifying on both of them to make them both more detailed.

I finished the Dragula weeks ago, since that was the easiest one, but on the Koach, i had to do alot of work!

Here's a pic of the Dragula with more info on what I did to it : [link]

To start with, the Koach needed a new frame, I didnt like how everything was molded to the frame, so I made my own. I scavanged throught my parts box and found a chromed 32 ford front axel for it, rear cheromed buggy springs, and a rear differntial. As for the engine, it looked way to small to me, so i source an acurately scaled cobra engine, trimed it down some so the sides wouldnt rub on the engine compartment. I didnt like the plastic, glue together tires, so i found some thatt looked pretty close to whats on the real thing.

The stacks looked alil odd to me, they were all pointing to the sides, instead of angled towards the front. I had to cut all 10 of them off and angle them just the right amount. I even aded some fuel lines to them to help cover up where i made the cuts.

I left the interior alone, I thought it looked good enough, but i did add some armrests on the raised rear seat for alil more realism. As for the "brass" finish on some of the parts, those were chrome plated, so i added a thin coat of some Brass Metalizer paint which gave it the right finish.

You mean the actual models in the pic, or the model kits? The actual models you see arent for sale, ive been waiting a long time to find both of those cars. But they do still sell the kits..when i was last in Hobby Lobby not too long ago I saw kits for both cars for sale, and there were plenty of them on the shelf

Haha cool! Good idea, on the dicast I have, the steps at the bottom keep breaking off after I keep regluing them back on. But the model in this pic is one I built from a kit, and its safe inside a case with the dragula

It takes some time to get good at it, Ive been building since I was in preschool, and Im still picking up new techinques and things. I treat models like I do with my art work, each model kit I get is a blank canvas to me

Nice! lol I was in Disney World recently and I found her some Jack pins for her purse. They came in a box with 3, and you never know which Nightmare Before Christmas pin you'll get. One of the ones she got was a St Patrick's Jack dress up as a Leperchan with this weird , akward look on his face lol XP

oh coolness. I've never been to Disney World. Coarse i've never had any desire to go. I'd rather go to Universal Studios/Island of Adventure. Or we usually just go to Six Flags. lol. That would be weird to see Jack dressed in St Patty's day stuff. It just doesn't suit him.

Ive always wanted to go to Universal studios in Orlando! lol I dont blame you, Id like Disney better if I didnt have to hear Hannah Montanna, or Highschool musical crap in random parts of the parks... *pukes*

It's SOO awesome. I went the summer before my senior year of high school for a band competition and after we marched through the park with the other bands. We got to spend two days there. going between both parks. it was really cool. I wanna go back so bad especially since they built the new Harry Potter world. I looks so awesome. I told my dad I'd totally dress the part if we ever went. XD

The Dragula is my fave too, even though i like them both. I like the model of the dragula better than the model of the Koach, I think the dragula came out better, and it was a quick and simple build, even though I added less details to it than I did on the Koach

Nice work there Mr.Vash. I did a few mods to the ones that I built too. I did ask around in different sites why the yellow doors in the rear on the real car ? Was it for that junk yard replacement look ? What's up with that ? To this day , know one seems to know why.

vash68 In reply to gberzzerk [2010-08-25 21:40:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! have any pics of the ones you did?

I heard other ppl saying that nobody knows why either.....I was thinking maybe they need more yellow on the car cuz the curtains were yellow, and they needed more yellow to balance things out? who knows.... Its kinda like what some artists tend to do, when they paint a color in one spot they have to put that same color in another spot to balance everything.

gberzzerk In reply to vash68 [2010-08-26 05:21:01 +0000 UTC]

Yes I do have photo's of them here in my gallery. If you can see it, I used the head of a straight pin dip in gold paint to simulate buttons in the seats. I think I may had swap out the tires for better ones that came with the kit,I think I may have another kit unbuilt in my stash or would like to get another cuz when I built the first one, I wasn't able to get any Alclad chrome paint at that time. Now I can and use it alot. So re-chroming some of the parts would make it look so much better.

vash68 In reply to gberzzerk [2010-08-26 22:03:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeh using that gold metalizer paint mad a huge difference! I think you can still add some brass metalizer paint on yours, I brused painted mine on. Its so thin it dosent leave any brush strokes, just brush on just enough to tint the chrome, some parts may take 2 or more coats.

I always wondered how the chrome on these models would work with my gold/chrome electroplate machine. Would it be too much? What if the chrome doesn't have the right base and the gold (Or black chrome or nickel or whatever) might not adhere to the base.

vash68 In reply to HotRod-302 [2010-08-25 21:41:39 +0000 UTC]

I have no idea what would happen or how they chrome plate parts....and I've never used an electro plater..how dose it work?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HotRod-302 In reply to vash68 [2010-08-26 04:32:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, odds are the model parts are electroformed. They put a conductive paint on the plastic then put it in a solution attached to a wire with a "Sacrfafical annode" attached to another wire in the solution. It's really coold to see happen because the electrical current (DC only) actually takes the metal off the annode and deposits the metal onto the model part.
However mine is an electroPLATE system. It does the same thing but uses a brush instead of dunking it. You can't plate directly onto chrome, really, it doesn't work well. So I have a special solvent that EATS chrome off of BUMPERS. I take that and use the electroplater to remove the chrome. A good plating job starts with a layer of copper, then a layer of nickel, then a layer or more of chrome. I'm not sure if the electroform metallic paint would be conductive enough to take effect.

Thats pretty cool, so you can rechrome parts huh? How much was it? I have a tona stuff I need rechromed, that could save me from replacing some of those parts.

HotRod-302 In reply to vash68 [2010-08-27 05:34:32 +0000 UTC]

My machine itself was about $2000. But it's a big machine made from anything smaller than a bumper. For anything like that you'd want it to be electroformed in a tank (It's stronger that way. Sort of like the difference between painting and powdercoating.) but there are small kits for models you can get cheap.
This is just smaller version of what I have. [link] and since they say "Chrome LIKE" I'd wager some of it would be better if things were more pure. To do chrome my system uses a wand made of carbon, because it wont contaminate the chrome going on, other wise if I used the stainless wand there'd be a tiny bit of molecular stainless which isn't as purdy as chrome.

Then there is THIS. I would LOVE this but... I just don't trust it. With this I can chrome plate bumpers and rims. This uses the "sacrificial annode" system.
[link]
I'm half tempted to try though...
though really all you need is a DC current, a little knowledge, and the chemicals to be able to plate. AC doesn't work so well. When it goes from positive to negative it will remove anything you just put on.
