The village of Wootton in rural Bedfordshire is crisscrossed with underground springs and streams, oak, ash and thorn trees grow in close proximity to eachother. Despite the alarming number of houses springing up within the village boundries some parts still remain unspoiled.
In one field,close to 'The Chequers' pub is a clump of trees surrounding a hollow that never quite dries out no matter how hot the summer may be. This ancient spring site is known locally as 'The Spinney'. Here, if you know the right time of year or day, or the correct rituals you may glimpse the ancient, bowed figure of The Rootwitch. As gnarled as the roots and bark of any hawthorn or elm, some say she was ancient when the race of man was young, that she has cast the runes and foretold the future since before memory. is she should beckon you with one gnarled, crooked finger, listen well to her words, and pray that any part you play in the great tapestry of fae courts and the world of spirits is but a small one......
