Description In Switzerland he is the Tschäggätta. In Hungary and Germany thay call him the Krampus. In Scandanavia he is the Troll and here in Britain he goes by the old Saxon name Woodwose, or Wodewose. Were these creatures once men, who turned their backs on civilization, and embraced the wild? Are they some distant cousin of ours that was never foolish enough to leave the forest and be weighed down by the yoke of 'progress'. Or are they beings of Faerie, spirits of the forest made flesh?

I wouldn't compare Trolls and Krampusse. The Krampus is a christmas tradition in Southern Germany, Austria and some parts of Hungary (I'm not sure about the last one). And Trolls are really mythical creatures. Also the Tschäggätta origined different than the Krampus, even tho they look familiar.

I was pretty much drawing on generic country-specific names for wildmen archetypes.

There's nothing to feel bad about. Of course you could have done. But the picture went out good. I only didn't want to give a comment, but then I red the description, and you know the rest.

Oh, that´s a fantastic drawing! Although it frightens me somewhat...or more likely the thought of meeting him in the forest ^^.
Thanks for the interesting description also! I never heard of the Krampus ^^, although I love Mythology, ...but I looked it up: In southern Germany, he´s the somewhat darker companion/servant of St. Nikolaus/Santa Claus, and probably an ex-god ^^ (well, a pre-christian one ^^)...where I live, he´s got a different name and is muss less wild looking (I ´ve got to move XD)
The closest being to a woodwose might be a Schrat/Waldschrat - a "wild forestman" oder a spirit of the forest .

I think that many figures in myth and folklore are far older than we know, echoes from before christianity. Perhaps the Fae are half-forgotten echoes of ancient gods?
