Description Taiwan Railways CT270 and JNR Class are the same type of locomotive that they are both 4-6-2 "Pacific". CT270s were built by Kawasaki and Hitachi between 1942 and 1953. They were used for passenger service for pulling the express. Their nickname is "Lady" because of its beautiful shape and streamlined look. While the DT650s (D51) are called king of the steam locomotives, hey are called queen of the steam locomotives.

In 1937, the Ministry Railways of Japan ordered the factories to construct C57 by improving the C55's design. The Governor-General of Taiwan Railway intruducted C57 1 and C57 2 produced by Hitachi. C57 3 - C57 6 were built by Kawasaki. The rest were no longer intruduced due to World War ll. After the end of the war, all C57s were adaped as CT270. They continued their passenger service like the old days. After the Republic of China government moved to Taiwan in 1949, it was received by the Taiwan Railway Administration and repaired in its entirety. The form was adapted to CT270 (CT271-CT276). In 1953, the Taiwan Railways used the aid of the US aid to repurchase 8 locomotives (CT277-CT284) to Hitachi, which became the last national iron-type steam locomotive in Japan and the last steam locomotive introduced in Taiwan.

Although five were preserved, CT273 is still operable for tourism in Hualien and attracts lots of tourists to take pictures of it.
