The Tora was originally designed by Shipwrights from Neo Nippon. A close trade partner with Ravana in the pre separation period, together they planed this frigate to accompany Helios Transports that frequented the two young colonies. The Tora initially did not have any Warp propulsion due to the size of the eras warp coils and power plant restrictions. Instead this vessel was the first to implement a warp repeater, allowing it to help stabilize and expand another ships warp field.

Today the Tora is most often used as a Patrol ship in star systems under NSl control. Now manufactured with week Warp coils the Tora is praised for its agility and the forward class 2 docking/breaching port often used successfully as a boarding party frigate in fleet tactics.

There is no similarity beyond 'engines at the back, general solid blocky shape.' They do not have the same hull structure at all. I have no idea how you can say it's similar to the Pillar of Autumn.

Very nice design, but I'm a bit in the dark about the firing arcs on your point defense. From the configuration I'm seeing, you've left a sizable portion of the mid-ships exposed, almost as though its intended for fire to be drawn to those sections. If this is part of the design specification, I'm guessing the exposed sections are more heavily armored or have some other passive form of protect.
Granted, I could be completely off in my estimate, but it doesn't appear so from the aspects shown.
Never the less, a good design. As for overpowered, that would depend on how much of the ship is automated and how many crew are required to operate the vessel. Less crew and more automation would allow for a longer operational range and more firepower.

One thing I'd like to amend.
Given its overall size, the 'exposed' sections are smaller than I had estimated in the previous comment, and thus may be a more difficult target than perceived.

indeed given its size and speed its not so easy to target, or keep in its blind spots. its designed to deter raiders mostly, whom more often than not do not have anything larger than a corvette. The Projectile weaponry is mostly effective in forward to broadsides and the Tora rely on maneuvering itself to use those angles. Anything of a larger size, is left to missile spam, which is what edges this ship toward destroyer but since there one fire no reload its not meant for long engagement.

This came out really nice ^^

That is an extremely mean frigate. It honestly reminds me a lot of the Dunkirk, in that it is technically a frigate, but is almost excessively armed for its size. It would be interesting to see a new model of the Dunkirk, come to think of it. Don's is pretty old and outdated by this point.

Alls I know is that it's something right out of Homeworld. Not a bad design, though. I'll have to confer to you as to whether it is or isn't overpowered - not much of a tech fellow.

Eh, whatever. Wherever I saw a ship design like that then. Right out of there.

if you make such comparisons please show an example of what you mean, or its pointless to say it... I hate it when people say such things of my designs, and have nothing to back it up with... show us that homeworld ship, i'd like to see. and "Eh, whatever" is a crappy answer...

its Way over gunned to be a frigate... its more Destroyer/missile boat stats... i like the over all shape and design...

rcs619 In reply to Jepray [2011-01-16 10:17:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it is kind in the same place as the Dunkirk-class, which would roughly be this ship's equivalent from the UEC. They are both technically frigates by their nation's standards, but they are excessively armed for their size and kind of straddle the frigate/destroyer line.

There are smaller ships on each side though. Not sure about the NSL, but I know the UEC has a couple other types of frigates and a corvette-class vessel.

WOWandWAS In reply to Jepray [2011-01-16 06:35:30 +0000 UTC]

yup, ive decided to just call my Light destroyers and large corvettes frigates to make my life easer. It also looses a lot of its punch after a while since all the missiles are single rack no reload.

lol, so your frigates tonnage range is all over the place, are you sure its making things easier and not harder?
