The Lancer was originally designed entirely as a test frame for the Phletcher antiproton cannon. After successful testing of its main weapon, the maneuverability of the vessel impressed the brass reviewing the trials. Shipwrights augmented the gun and frame with basic armor and light guns at their request, resulting in a quick and relatively cheep long-range gun support frigate.

As its main propulsion is composed entirely of maneuvering pods, 4 of them, it is extremely maneuverable, even for its size, but not as fast as other ships its size. Which makes it ideal for holding in the back of a fleet near other slow but larger capital vessels, sniping at targets with its main cannon. The bare bones nature of the Lancer also means there is no Warp Drive, but was outfitted with a warp Repeater. In total the Lancer is only a viable ship when in the company of larger vessels.

I wonder, the total crew is 7 ... and, I've noticed that many of these designs have very small crews. Isn't that ... too few? I mean, 453 ft is a lot of ship for so few people, and while it might not take very many to pilot it, if it took any damage, etc., and needed things like heavy repairs, it seems a waste to just hop in the pod and leave it when having a few extra hands could get it operational, not to mention it wouldn't take to many casualties in a combative situation to render is inoperational. Thoughts?

Well the lancer is mostly hollow at its center, its had to see from these 2d veiws because of the armour that boxes around it. the back section is almost entirely a large power generator for the front main cannon, and the rest is built around the power conduit that connects them. while rather long, the lancer is not very wide, and thus the actual volume of the ship capable of housing personnel is closer to a small corvette. it could squeese more people in i guess but not as permanent crew, the lancer is never supposed to go it alone anyway, so crew augmentation or rotation is likely.

As for the tora, it can most defiantly have larger crews depending on its mission.

I guess I understand that. A couple of my story lines are things I started over a year ago then lost the muse for a month later. Once I use up all that I've stored up, I'll probably have to write continuations.
