Description Second Milestone achieved--

This was done in several steps, first with a cardboard version to make a template, then transferred to eva foam. The goatee is cardboard & foam combined, and the entire thing is strengthened with cardboard at the inner joints. Now that the frame is done, I can finally fuse the horns to the back of the helmet and shape them a little better.

This was certainly a frustrating piece, I'm definitely at the point of "good enough". I found Volvagia's skull way easier, and other than touch-ups, this helmet is ready for the next stage.

oh my gosh! My boy friend needs to see this! How did you make the shape so well?! .A. Could you note me on how to do this or give some advice? My boy friend and I have been trying to figure out how to do it. He's gonna cosplay as Volga for Comic Con and Otakon this year. How long did it take you to mold that? And how did you shape it? This looks exactly like his helmet.

Funny how he has a metal goatee. XD I think its suppose to be the bottom part of the dragon's mouth. Cause it's the same color as the jaw of his mouth when he turns into his " true form".

Haha, I talked to you already about this. XD You made a post about your friend cosplaying Volga!

The foam is carved over time, to get the shape I needed! I post day by day progress on my FB account (it's public) listed in my journal. It has some tips and methods I used for each part, hope it's helpful!

There's several steps to help you shape it right, you need lots and lots of reference pictures to get all the angles possible of the helmet, and just slowly shape it, piece by piece. Try to avoid taking huge chunks out of the foam, because adding makes it's harder to carve, than taking it away. Especially if you want it smooth. It took a couple weeks, if I remember correctly. It still needs to be covered with paper mache or paper clay though, sanded and painted. So it's far from done yet!

I realized his goatee when I started looking at concept art! I was actually more worried of trying to get real hair to be that pointy, hahaha. It turned out better that it's part of the helmet, but it sure is weird. XD I definitely agree it's to make his helmet look like a jaw.
