Description Jeeze...It was so bright when I was working on it.  Any tips on how to compress images so that they don't lose all of their vibrance?  I got some of the brightness of the reds back with a little tweaking, but the green just stayed muddy and spinachy....Oh well.  Anyway, the mouse is Jewish, after all - and he deserved a Bar Mitzvah, so I gave him one, dammit!  XD

Being Catholic, I know nothing of Jewish traditions.

Still, I’m glad Fievel is finally a man...er, mouse.... you know.

Please google the word FICTION. If you can wrap your head around how it works, you’ll be on your way to your answer! XDDD

Very cute!!!! Good job!!!!

Like him, I'm also Jewish. Fievel is one of my favorite characters. His song, "Somewhere Out There", is simply wonderful.

Thanks very much! I'd always wished they'd done more with his heritage, but maybe Spielberg got bored with the project by the time the first film had run its course.

Well, today many studios are making reboots about their films and cartoons (I know a lot of them are bad, but at least it remains the legacy of the original work). Fievel is a great film for teaching the kids what is anti-semitism. I hope one day Spielberg retake this work (a movie like "An American Tail" is very important nowadays). Fievel is adorable More than a lot of Disney characters.

Obviously, the reboot, if it were to happen, would have a new team working on it, with the possibility of staff members who worked on the original joining in.

For example, there's a chance that Spielberg would still be on the team if it were to get rebooted for a modern generation.

I definitely agree! An American Tail gave Disney a run for its money at the time, seeing as how animated features were in a slump. I was just a youngster when that movie was new, and even back then I knew I wanted to go into animation. Disney had been a major inspiration, but THIS...well...this was just a whole new level for me. The darkness and the serious tone and drama of it all just made it so fresh (my mother hadn't let me see Secret of NIMH in theaters, but that probably would've blown me away first, had I seen it before AAT!).

You make a good point about the reboots, but you know what? I feel like Fievel's story would be best told as a sequence of perhaps holiday story books, all beautifully illustrated and perfectly on model, showing the family all together. It would be so enriching to find out more about the lives of the Mouskewitzes, don't you think? Something to think about! If it piques your interest, maybe we can collaborate on such a thing!

Heheh, hard to say. There are so many wild stories about Walt, I’m not sure there’s anyone still around who can separate the facts from the exaggerations anymore.

Here in Brazil, Fievel's story was a sucess in the 80's. It's sad I was born in 1997, so my mother knew little about Fievel and I only discovered this beautiful film when I was 21 (and I'm still... hahaha). I would prefer she showed me Fievel instead those sad and horrendous films that Disney made in the 40's.

Unfortunatelly, antisemitism is growing though the world. Our children must learn respect and the true about Jewish people. And Spielberg, as a Jew, made a perfect job with this movie. It teaches a lot about antisemitism and children would be against prejudice because they would show solidarity with the Mousekewitzes. Kids which grows up with Fievel will never vote for antisemites.

I would love to collaborate. I'm not a good designer, but I write stories very well (and I know a lot about Jewish culture and holidays). We would make a great job

My eldest brother in law's father said he didn't like An American Tail, because through the movie Fievel was "assimilated". He talked about McDonald's campaign as if it was the intentions of Spielberg and Bluth. That's not true! It's just that Fievel's religion is irrelevant to his journey. (I've only seen the first movie. I'm a purist that way.)

Heheh, I remember that! Christmas stockings in the happy meals, right? I remember thinking that seemed a little odd, too, but mostly because the movie had nothing to do even with Christmas, let along religion at all! XD Its Jewishness is so subtle, too, you'd really have to be familiar with the things you were looking at (and most likely an adult) to even notice them! I really didn't until I grew up and watched the movie again as an adult.

You're not missing much not having seen the other movies. People rave on and on about Fievel Goes West, but it's just horrible. Whoever took over really messed up Fievel's model and made him into a bubble-head. Same reason I've always stayed far away from Bluth sequels that had nothing to do with Bluth. Utter carnage. Thanks for your comment - it seems so rare nowadays on this site to get them!

Fantastic job! I don't remember any direct Jewish references except that the Mousekewitz family comes from what looks like Poland during the Russian Revolution. Still, this is historically accurate and I love the vivid blue, red, and gold.

Hey thanks!  I always wanted to, but never could quite manage it.  Glad to be able to make it work all these years later.    I really think it would be fun to explore Fievel's life more in like a mini fan comic or something.  Maybe if I ever have time to really study the character designs and do some serious research on the Lower East Side at that period in time, I could do it myself!

Oh hey, thanks!  It's just done in Clip Studip Paint.
Sorry it's not as polished as I wish it could have been - I'm just now learning to do digital painting after spending most of my life working with just basically paintbucketing line art.
