yeah i remember that this banding wasnt visible on my last monitor so whatever its not really big problem unless you are going to print

I'm diggin' it. I only have two qualms with the work. I hope you don't mind if I mention them. I'm usually not one to critique a work.

First the banding does distract me. Its ok though it happens.

Second, I feel that the upper lighting, while it suits the image and the overall scene and is quite awesome, is a bit overexposed. You can display very vivid light without the abrupt color change that is common with heavy use of the overlay layer mode or sever level and curve usage.

I think mentioning it will give you a sense to see if there is a work around and there usually is.

Overall I love the concept. Besides two minor structure flaws in the banding and overexposure of the light source I think you've projected a good work here. Kudos.

i wanted to make some kind of overexposure on the upper light, but it ended up quite weird, and i didn't know how to make it look ok again. i didn't use overlays and stuff like this, so that's not a problem that can be solved by just deleting some layers. :/

about the banding, i'm now aware of how to get rid of it and will pay attention at this in future works ^^

and thank you very much for those words
you are one of the only ones who can really go around and say things about other's space art.
i mean, you're right. you have all the experience to do what you do, don't ever worry about it.

you should use 16bit/channel next time
this will avoid the strange gradient fade (if u see it on ur monitor)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xRed-thunderDragoNx In reply to buchvecny [2006-11-08 20:13:28 +0000 UTC]

eh
i don't see what you mean
i don't even understand what you may be talking about

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

absolutehalo In reply to xRed-thunderDragoNx [2006-11-08 22:02:50 +0000 UTC]

It's called banding. You can try going to 16 bit color channel when working with gradients. Unfortunately, the 16 bit channel has a few drawbacks... namely certain filters will be unusable.

Gradial banding creates distinct lines in the gradient. try saving a gradient as an 8 color gif and see what occurs. That is a prime example of banding.

Sometimes banding will occur on some monitors and not others. Just haveta' be on the look out for strange gradient anomolies. Hope that helped a bit.

Otima transição do escuro pra o claro. Bem suave. E os asteroides estão otimos. O efeito de moviemento ficou bem real.

Fantastic. Your brushing is very well done, the nebula in the background reminds me of the surface of a planet far below. I think you should try painting some more solid objects in greater detail. You might surprise yourself with what you can do.

xRed-thunderDragoNx In reply to Sharpie-Love [2006-11-06 15:32:28 +0000 UTC]

brushing and smudging is something i'm working really hard, and now you tell me it's improving
that's great! ^^
the idea of a far away planet always amazed me, and someday i'll really be able to paint something like that.
What do you mean by painting solid objects? you mean, still life and stuff, or more detailed space nebulae etc?

ty very much for those words

Overall i think its a good composition. The only thing that looks a bit out of place is the blurred asteroids near the light, i know they are supposed to be in motion, but i think they are blurred the wrong way if they are moving away from the explosion/sun. Or i could be totally wrong about this guess. Good work anyway, it looks fantastic.

xRed-thunderDragoNx In reply to darron [2006-11-06 15:36:32 +0000 UTC]

yea, j4m3sb0nd said the same about those asteroids
i didn't want to make them look like they are coming in direction of the camera. they are just passing by, and seems fine to me... I mean, i can't really see what you see :/
the composition isn't the best i know. it started one way and i was making it bigger and bigger and them it lost the flow.
thank you for your comment
