He's being so, SO good? XD It was sort of hard to resist answering with that. Lemme think... next scene is two, three pages long, I think, and then we're getting into the obligatory Silentshipping storyline for this chapter. Because Game of Dreams is actually, you know, a Silentshipping fic where all the entire rest of the cast keeps butting in by actually having lives. XD
(I'm only sort of kidding.)

OBLIGATORY SILENTSHIPPING WIN FFFFFFF. You have no idea how excited I am to hear that. I don't even have the WORDS. The thought of Seto Kaiba having a successful romance is both hysterical and touching. Maybe that's why it's such a great pairing. I hate it when the cast have lives. XD

Whose families are NORMAL? I mean, Yugi has a grandpa and mom (no father), Tristan just has a sister and perverted nephew, Joey has divorced parents and a drunkard dad, Ryou ran away from his folks, Seto's step father commited suicide and tortured Seto (who now only has Mokuba), and Yamis has an Uncle Scar who wants to kill him and a cousin Kovu who's just his fathers puppet.
Everyone: BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
OH WHAT!?! Like you didn't see a lion king reference coming! I don't care if it was already mentioned that Kovu was not Scar's son, I SAY HE IS!! Disney only planted that on there just to find an excuse to hook up Kiara and Kovu!

Yukai-no-Yugi In reply to ufd [2012-06-26 19:17:03 +0000 UTC]
Well, I don't actually believe that "normal" exists by most people's definitions, but Yugi's dad is, technically, "around," if you call being on the Eternal Business Trip that Takahashi claims he's on "around." I'm quite certain Tristan mentioned his parents in the manga, although even if he didn't, only mentioning his sister and her family doesn't mean that's all the family he has. Roo didn't run away from his family; he just lives separately from his father (who apparently works at/with Domino City Museum, which is like, what, really?) while his mother died in the same accident his sister died in.
That said, Mai still makes for one too many orphans, especially since we're including the Doma characters and all three of Dartz's Swordsmen were orphans, too. (Slightly more justified in that they were handpicked and technically also orphaned on purpose.) And who knows where Rebecca's parents are.
What I think is particularly weird about making Kovu "not" Scar's son so that Kiara wouldn't be romancing her cousin is that Nala and Simba's mothers were sisters. It's like, lions DO that, you guys, settle down.

Then how does the whole Ryou moving from place to another due to his other personality work out? I guess I'm getting this from the season 0 anime. I don't know. I did think the Ryous father working at the Domino Musium came out of nowhere and makes no sense. Also, I never really remembered YuGiOh mentioning about Yugis father. YuGiOh R and YuGiOh novel don't count, because they weren't made by the same guy. Really, I never really recalled the manga ever mentioning Yugis father.
Anime doesn't count either, because anything between battle city and memory world, Noas arc, and the virtual reality mumbo jumbo wasn't in the manga. Those are fillers added in.
Really? You mean Nala and Simba were cousins!? Go figure! Still, it'd make more sense if Kovu was Scar's son! I mean that's what I thought when I was young. Another thing, why are all the lions, besides two, are female in the outlands? What's Zerah's connection to Scar? I can't say she's his wife, since Simbas mother was betrothed to Scar by Mufaca's death! I guess harem? And one very important question. Hehe please forgive me for being nitpicky but... WHY DIDN'T SIMBA OR NALA TEACH THEIR DUMB BROAD DAUGHTER HOW TO HUNT PROPERLY!?! seriously! Mufassah taught Simba how to pounce! Like there was a scene with Zazu being used for Simbas pouncing lessons! I'd say that Kiara is a bich, only I think that part was Simbas fault. I mean if he kicked Zerah and her kids for no reason instead of reasoning with the woman LIKE HE DID AT THE END I say that he's unreasonable and doesn't think of how to teach his daughter responsibilities and HUNTING!

Yugioh never DOES mention Yugi's father, that was Takahashi outright saying "Oh, he's on a business trip" to a fan in a question answering interview that was in the monthly Shonen Jump one time.
Anime DOES count because a fan can include whatever they want from the various continuities into their personal canon (or into a fanfic's canon), and that's their business, but the anime doesn't mention Yugi's dad either. This is a strictly "word of author" case. (He doesn't even mention what Yugi's dad DOES for a living. I vote international secret agent.)
Roo moves from one place to another, yes, but it was also noted that his father is out of the country a lot, and when he says "I live away from my family" in the manga it sounded entirely like his father was still in the picture of his LIFE, just not WITH him most of the time, and that they lived different places. SOMEONE had to be paying for that lovely apartment, and Ryou rather clearly has no job. It is a VERY nice apartment. His father is also the dope man who GAVE him the Millenium Ring in the first place, so his working with a museum makes a certain amount of sense, except for that whole "not getting arrested for giving his son a magic ancient artifact" thing. I personally suspect that Ryou's father is actually just as messed up as Ryou is, and that he spends so much time away from Japan for a similar reason to why Ryou writes letters to a certain dead person. Unless he actually DID get arrested for giving his son a historical artifact, which would kind of raise the question of how he was supporting Roo at that point.
There were only ever two to three males around in The Lion King because male lions hate each other and only tolerate males that are related to them. Meaning that Kovu had to be Scar's SOMETHING, or else his father was a random wandering lion, which does happen, that Scar is a Disney character, and we shouldn't think about it too hard. In any case, it's kind of hilarious that they were trying to distance Kovu and Kiara's blood relationship when they would have been less close cousins than Simba and Nala were.
I honestly have no comments on Simba's parenting ability, except to point out that he was half raised by a meerkat and a warthog. Irresponsible ones, too.

Then he should've mentioned it in the manga. So really, I say blame the writer for not being spacific. At least GX, 5D's, and Zexal informed about the parents! I mean really, is that any surprise? The only parents that are ever given credit are the ones from Ponyo as far as I'm concerned. I think Dinosaur King too... Yeah, that one too. The rest rarely show parents or non at all! I mean they make the parents from the Home Alone sequels (not counting Lost in New York) have excellent parenting skills!
oh, I know you're including anime, I'm just messing with ya XD.
I guess the dad would be pretty messed up if his wife and kid died, then his son will go psycho maniac when playing Monster World. Still... The whole Ryou being away from his family when his father lives right down the block still doesn't add up. I mean Ryou could've been old money or something. Though, I suppose his father could've owned the place and live in another country. Who knows?
I know! It's like they put that and I'm like: yep, this sequel is gonna suck! Though, why is that even a surprise? lol I mean Disney loves to make their sequels suck unless they have their rare ACTUALLY MAKING AN EFFORT! Like the Lilo and Stitch sequels, Aladen sequel (not Return of Jaffar!), or Rescuers Down Under.
Good point! Let's blame Timon and Pumba. I mean they sucked in the series, so why not parenting.

I agree that the author should include knowledge like that IN THE STORY, but sometimes it just doesn't come up. In this case, a lot of Japanese fathers are away from the family a lot, so Takahashi probably didn't realize that American fans would react to his absence the way we have.
Another thing is, it's not actually especially unheard of (in anime at least) for children and parents to live separately but close by for some reason or another. In one case that I recall, one of the female characters lived in an apartment her father paid for because her stepmother didn't like having her in the house. If Ryou genuinely felt he was a danger to his father, or his father was genuinely afeared of his son, both of which are possible, that might explain it. Ryou may have actually begged his father to let him live alone, and his father, assuming it had to do with grief or something like it, acquiesced to his only remaining child's request. There are all sorts of hidden factors at play with that.
Ironically, I really enjoyed the Timon and Pumbaa show. But I also never considered it to be in the same continuity as the actual movie. Some of its own episodes didn't seem to be in continuity with each OTHER, so I figured that was safe. That doesn't mean I think that Timon and Pumbaa made the best parents.
There's always this danger with making sequels, that the writers will bank too much on what came before. The Return of Jafar has to kind of be forgiven a little, though, because it was essentially a pilot for what turned out to be an awesome tie in series. (I may be biased on that point. I adored Mozenrath. ADOOOORED. Also there was the Great Mechanicles.)

Really? Huh! I didn't know that. I guess you learn something new everyday.
Yeah, I suppose that makes sense. I've heard of something like that happening around south-west Asia with a young girl about 16.
Lol I didn't think. I didn't like the show, because of it not being related to the movie and putting Simba OOC sometimes when he shows up. Ironically, I liked the episodes when Simba does show up lol.
I never really got into the series, because I used to not like Aladen as a kid. Lol I know, I didn't know what was good, but I was scared of the ending with the snake and I was like 5 or something. When I did get a little older, I was afraid it would turn out like the Little Mermaid series, which I hated. So yeah lol.
