The setting is that if there was a "bad end" route to SAO, Asuna would have died by heathcliff, and kirito would have lost the will to fight. Heathcliff goes to the 100th floor and kirito resumes his mindless training (hence at night) for revenge (evil red eyes). However the memory of Asuna will always haunt him, and he constantly sees her at the corner of his eye.
