These are beautiful!! What did you use to stiffen the fabric? I'm so glad someone else had the same idea I did about using fabric! I'm making wings for a Maleficent cosplay. Thanks, and keep up the awesome work!!!

The inner part of the feather is actually interfacing (that stiff stuff they use to make tuxedo collars) and I had gotten the double-sided sticky type, so when I ironed the linen to the interfacing, it stuck! Then just airbrush the feathers according to your liking!

The motor noises are mostly muffled by the fur and feathers, and in a convention, nobody can hear them.
They are controlled by sensors your brain operates.

I was just wondering how exactly you made the feathers if you don't mind my asking. i'm planning on making mine out of poster board but i was wondering if you had some sort of tutorial as to how you made them. ^^

for mine, i just made the feathers out of poaster board and glued a dowel rod to them for a bone appearence and then wrapped them up in paper mache to give it a more finished look and spraypainted them blac (since this is for a vulture lion griffin fusuit) i'll have pics up soon

Oh very freaking nice! Are those going to be somewhat articulated?

These are fully articulated, with 3 ranges of motion. Skaros444 had created the animatronic armature for these!

Did you make the feathers like an Eagle owl? They look like that.. Siberian eagle owl..

Zhon In reply to littlewolfling [2012-07-29 04:29:04 +0000 UTC]
They were actually mocked lightly after a Barn owl....but I did not have the right colours or get the barring right.
But I can see where you'd see an eagle owl! Those are beautiful birds!

Holy crapola!! Those are truly amazing!!! I know you say the airbrushing is 'meh,' But when you take a step back and look them over, I think they look really GREAT! This is a case where less is more! You don't want to distract from the actual craft. And the feathers shapes are totally "WOW!" They must look outstanding on!!!! You never cease to amaze me with your concepts and final products! I didn't use Pvc... And instead of tape, I'd highly suggest some type of glue.

I've always had great respect to those that do animatronics, I wouldn't even know how to wire anything to make it move.
The feathers look amazing, they fooled me in the thumbnail as I thought they were real. xD Can't wait to see this one finished.
